How can I keep my red hair red? And is there anything to avoid doing with red hair?

I dyed my hair red about 4 weeks ago. It was very hard to maintain..as it only lasted for 3 weeks. Red is the harder color to keep up with, it fades quite easily. I use a shampoo/conditioner for red hair and it definitely helped. Less color faded when I washed it. Here is the products I used. Hope this helps! xx

Rinse with as cold of water as you can handle. A red conditioner will help and just keep in mind that it will fade quicker than most colors but is also one of the most difficult colors to get rid of. Beautiful and fun tho! Good luck.

yes you can put a little bit of conditioner in the dye so your hair wont dry out.

I have no advice cause I have no dyeing experiences. But could you post a picture of the result? I'd like to see how it came out :D

Red is also very hard to get rid of if you decide to change it! My hair's been auburn for over a year - I'm trying to go back to being a brunette, but no color will take, and the red is still there!

dry shampoo in between washes, the less you wash your hair the longer your color will last.

i had bright red hair and the way I maintained it was:
-don't rap hair in fowl after shower it sucks up color
-I didn't shampoo my hair I just conditioned it!
-stayed out of direct sunlight
-used a color protector for red hair (leave in spray)
-don't sleep with wet hair cause dye rubs off on pillow case
-used a color refresher in between dyes from sallys.for got name
pretty much it had to do a lot to keep hair up! haha

if you add temp dyes such as crazy colour into your shampoos when you wash your hair it works pretty well to keep it looking fresh :)

Agree with Nicola H. Use paintbox by fudge or a similar product to keep it looking bright. As everyone has said, it fades quickly but doesn't quite ever go away...

I had red hair for years and it fades very fast. There are lots of shampoos and other products out there to help reduce fading, some even deposit a little color. When you shower try to keep your head out of the water as much a you can. Wash your hair in the coolest water you can stand.
