Not the best color payoff, but still satisfactory
I got this quad at Target for $1.12, and being that it was way to cheap, I thought it was just going to be downright chalky. The darker colors have great payoff, but the lighter colors are a bit powdery. I wished they'd mix up matte and shimmer shades in a quad instead of all shimmer, since I prefer a matte highlight color to a shimmer one. Nonetheless I like the quad I got, and it's too cute! It fits in my bag, the case doesn't open easily, so there won't be any shadows smeared in my bag lol.
Bad pigmentation with lighter colors
The two lightest shades were barely visible on my skin. I got this in butternut. When I apply the first shade, it was merely shimmer. No color at all. The second one wasn't true to the color and was again sheer. The third and fourth colors were okay but a tad too dark for my complexion.
I bought like 7 of these cause I love em that much
These are wonderful little quads! Even though you don't get a TON of product, you still get a decent amount for $1! A little bit goes a long with with these, because the pigmentation is so awesome. I have Day 2 Night, Neuveau Naturals, Butternut, Silver Lining, and a few others. They can be used in multiple ways and last well. E.l.f. essential has some great products out there--especially these eyeshadows! I love the eyeshadow duos as well.
Hit & miss but only a dollar
I’m a bit on the fence with this quad. It’s only a dollar and incredibly small. I can pack this in the smallest pocket or handbag. The clasp is solid. I doubt that it will come open without some effort. I enjoy the clear top so I can easily see the colors. Though small, I can see one eye or lip in the mirror tucked away where the sponge applicator is stored. The label is also incredibly small. It would be difficult to read the label in order to repurchase.
The shadows themselves are both a hit and a miss. Though all of the shadows feel velvety, the darker shades are fantastic. They are incredibly pigmented. There is a great dupe for Satin Taupe which is truly worth a dollar for that shadow alone. The great disappointment came from the lighter shadows. Though the feeling of the lighter shadows was as velvety as the darker shadows, the effect of the lighter ones was patchy. After a while, I gave up using them and grabbed other shadows for my highlighters. Thus, the compact palette for a single look was nearly impossible for me to achieve.
I really like these little pallettes and for a buck, you can't go wrong. The only complaint I have is that when I pat my brush in the shadow, a lot comes off and the powder can go flying everywhere. But overall, the shadows are true to color and have excellent color pay off. I own the Butternut and Day to Night quads.
Ehhhh
I received "Butternut" as my free gift in an order I placed with ELF. I found the shadows to be sheerly pigmented and they weren't long-wearing, even over a primer. I had to layer the color several times and still didn't have rich color afterwards. I found the shades to blend almost completely away, rather than just the edges sheering out. I really like ELF's Studio Eyeshadows, but this particular product was a miss for me.
