Eye Enhancers 4 Kit Shadows

Half of my make-up collection is probably made up of these 4 color palettes from CoverGirl. They always know how to pair the right four colors together to create a well-pulled together look, from the brow bone highlight to the lower lash liner. Tropical Fusion has been my recent addiction!

I've never purchased eye shades from Cover Girl but when I had a $2 off coupon I thought I should give it a try. First dry run I used it without my beloved Urban Decay Eye Primer and the color seemed just a tad flat against my skin tone. When I used the primer...oh buddy....my eyes popped and the color just looked vibrant against my tone. This a definite buy if you're trying out bright colors for the first time. For darker skin tones I do highly suggest using a eye shadow primer to make the shades pop.

"Tropical Fusion" is designed to make your eye look go from day to night, and contains a rich cobalt blue, teal blue, peachy-orange and yellow-green. My particular "Tropical Fusion" was very sloppily put-together, with the pans laying crooked, sunken in or raised more than the nearby pans. Aside from that obvious detail, the shadows are packaged in a traditional compact with a blue base and clear lid. The included sponge applicator is a COVERGIRL norm, with an angled end and a wider end, which is nice for getting into the corner of the eye and crease, and for packing on color.

Each of the shades in "Tropical Fusion" were nicely pigmented, applying true-to-pan and blending easily. Some of the shades are patchier than others (cobalt blue and yellow-green), though none of the shades were chalky and there was little fallout.

While the shadows did apply true-to-pan, they didn't wear well throughout the day and night. By the time evening rolled around (8 hours later), the shades were looking very faded and slightly ashy. For example, the teal shade was used in my crease and by nighttime, appeared grey. While they didn't crease, the color payoff doesn't last.

Another tidbit worth noting is it may be difficult to decide on a color combination within "Tropical Fusion", especially if you're looking for a more wearable combination (i.e. office and school-appropriate). Personally, I feel the best two shades in the quad are the cobalt blue and teal blue - they're the best performers in regards to color payoff and pair well together.

"Tropical Fusion" offers a nice combination of fun, bright shades, and is great if you're looking for this sort of combination within one palette. However, as I mentioned, I found it hard to come up with color combinations within this palette, especially since the yellow-green is too light for anything other than a highlight.

I had a friend buy it for me from DC...though i am more into neutrals and darker shades of colours..i got excited upon seeing the colours throught the packaging. but i was sooner disappointed!! the blue and green was vibrant!!really nice colours but the shadow itself not so pigmentated so gotta keep packing it on for a better colour pay off. Then the orage and yellowish gold!! the orage is reallly nice..but the yellowish gold was sucha disappointment.....it was tooo light. On a whole i found the colours kinda dry....

While I was rummaging through my eyeshadows looking for inspiration for a new look, I found Covergirl's Eye enhancers 4-Kit Shadows in Tropical Fusion. I had bought this in 2008 for a summer look (which I wore a lot!) - then repurchased again in 2009 when it had run out. I thought this quad would be great for a few summer looks, and I actually got more out of it than I had expected. Not only did I use it for summer looks, but the blue and teal can be used in all seasons. You could also do a neutral look and add a fun color to your lower lash line to pump it up a little. I am going to do a few looks with this quad and post them later. I highly recommend this quad to people who like to add a little pop of color to their look.

This pallet looks theatrical, almost scary - who can use these colours?! Well, they are not well pigmented, so they go on quite sheer. The compact is lightweight and snaps shut. Open it to reveal a double ended sponge applicator but it does not snap into place, so every time I open the case, the applicator falls out.

I scored this @CVS. At under $6 for 4 shadows, it's ok if they're not super colour-rich, I'll wear these during day and play and save my Dior / Stila / YSL for other occasions. xoxo

First of all, i hate the textures of these. But I think that's just a personal prefernce. But the deep blue color broke without me even touching it!

I don't think any of the colors are super pigmented. But they can be if you know how to work with them well.

Using them on top of bases and wet, I can bring out the opacity.

You have to be careful using them wet though, because they tend to clump.

But if you don't mind adding an extra base, or whipping out some mixing medium, then these might be for you!
