bareMinerals SPF 15 Foundation

My everyday look is natural and simple. I have your typical blemishes/scars on my face from the sun or those pesky horrible things you call pimples. During the Spring/Summer I typically use a tinted moisturizer or a light weight foundation followed with the bare Minerals translucent powder aka mineral vail. The reason for that is because with the Bare Escentuals bareMinerals SPF 15 Foundation I feel like my pores can't breath and my face just looks "heavy". So Fall/Winter I ditch the tinted stuff and foundation and stick with my Bare Minerals. It evens out my skin tone and gives me a glow as well as hiding my blemishes and scars. I also get lots of compliments from strangers saying how I have beautiful skin. I smile, thank them, and tell them it was all made possible by Bare Minerals :)

I have combination-oily skin with yellow undertones and occasionally break out in acne. I used to be a devotee to Clinique when I had severe acne, but when it finally cleared, I decided to try other foundation options, and was recommended bareMinerals by my best friend. I have been using bareMinerals foundation for the past 3–4 years and lost count how many jars I've been through. Full size jars contain 0.3oz/9g of product and when I used to apply this almost daily, each jar would last me about 6 months, and sometimes longer if used very sparingly, so it's not too bad for the price. Supposedly mineral makeup doesn't expire either so this could last you a REALLY long time.

Before using bareMinerals foundation I was always using liquid makeup from Revlon or Clinique, so the powder mess was took a little time to get used to but thankfully it's minimized with the included jar sifter, with which the powder can be tapped back into if too much falls out. You only need a little bit of powder to cover your face, because I made the mistake of using too much powder during my first few tries and it does get cakey right away! Less is more! The coverage is sheer to medium, and it's buildable so I would use a tiny bit more on my acne scars to even them out with the rest of my skin tone. Moisturize and prime your face for the longest coverage--for me this was about 8 hours as opposed to 4–6 hours without moisturizer or primer.

The finish for the original powder has a little bit of a sheen, dewy finish, but there is a matte line from bareMinerals as well that comes in the same shades as their original line for those who prefer the matte look. The original foundation is nice if you like healthy, radiant skin but for those who produce excess sebum might prefer the matte foundation instead. I have combo-oily, but this worked out fine for the most part.

I am one of those people whose skin tones can be really light-skinned during the winter and shockingly baked during the summer, so I have used several different shades from bareMinerals foundation for the corresponding seasons. I love that bareMinerals has a pretty wide but well-edited range of shades to choose from, including a range of shades for gold/yellow undertones since these are a little difficult to find in drugstore foundations which tend to be either cool or too warm for my skin. I recommend getting a shade for winter and a shade for summer; during the winter, use the lighter shade as your primary foundation but your summer shade can be used as a bronzer or for facial contour during the winter as well.

This is the best formulation out there - I have used this for 5 years. I can even sleep in it. Although there are lots of formulas out there trying to emulate them, they clearly win 100% with this product. Shisedo was extremely smart to aquire them!

I received this as a gift and not knowing much about makeup did not help! I require more coverage to hide hyper-pigmentation on my skin.

At first I found that the amount of coverage I needed made my face look cakey and flaky.

But then I discovered that my lack of exfoliation is what was causing that flaky look.

This foundation definitely requires a pre-foundation routine of moisturizer and primer.

I have watched it applied to other people and seen an awesome transformation for light coverage.

You really have to have a very light hand when applying this foundation and make sure your skin is properly prepped. Slowly build up your coverage, because after a few minutes you will find that it changes and seems to melt into your skin. When you combine all those things this is a good foundation for anyone.

So if you have it in your makeup kit try one more time with those suggestions and see if you feel differently about it.

I've been using this for years. It covers light-medium and is very light on your skin. It evens out my skin tone and is a very natural day to night look.

I was a tinted moisturizer user in my early 20s, but then I needed more coverage. I have combination skin, so I can't use the Original Foundation. In fact, I only use Original as a concealer/brightener under my eyes and around my T-zone since it has mica (the glow factor). I use the Matte Foundation along with Brightening Primer, and it stays on all day. Sometimes, I'll put my makeup on around 7AM, and then I'll do a quick touch-up before I go out to dinner/happy hr. Oh and if the Matte feels powdery or dry, I'll mist my face with Dermalogica Multi-Active Toner. That toner is friggin amazing!!

Ok so i use worked for BE for a while and ive grown to like their product...i love the fact that the foundation only has 5 ingredients in it and its pure mineral...i love that you can sleep in it and not worry about breaking out! i love that you can pick between original and a matte finish! the only thing i DONT LIKE is that they dont have a shade for everyone and they cant customize a shade for you...im stuck in between 2 shades golden med and golden tan..so i have to mix the 2 =/ ive worked on so many people and they had the same issue...lost alot of interested clients just because there was no match and we cant customize a shade to them! thats my only issue..other than that their product is great!

Don't really get what all the hype is about. It rubs off on your clothes and your boyfriend and made my skin more greasy than normal. In pictures, my skin looked very chalky. Although Bare Minerals is supposed to be "natural looking" the powder seemed very cakey. A lot of people rave about this product, so maybe it's just not right for me :/ Not a big fan of any of the Bare Minerals loose powders, they're messy to apply.

i absolutely love bare mineral foundation! I use my golden medium foundation every day!

WHY I LOVE IT (reason # 1): When you put on a powder foundation mineral or pressed sometimes it just wont apply to you face. i've tried all the drug store "mineral foundations " and none of them will actually "stick" without having some sort of liquid or concealer applied before. bare minerals does! when you apply bare mineral you can get either result in a light natural coverage or flawless perfect concealed coverage with out concealer or liquid beforehand.

WHY I LOVE IT (reason #2): unlike other "mineral" foundations the coverage stays all day with out a primer.

WHY I LOVE IT (reason #3): blends well with all skin types, theres been times in the past when my local beauty store ulta was out of my shade "golden medium " so i would have to go down a shade lighter, well the foundation still matched my skin tone even though it was a bit lighter... after i added bronzer and contour it still looked GREAT!

WHY I LOVE IT (reason #4) bare minerals is very condensed and concentrated so if you want a concealed coverage you dont need as much foundation as you would need if you used any other "mineral foundation" resulting in using less product and saving money.

WHY I LOVE IT (reason #5): it LAST a long time!

I OVER ALL LOVE THE FOUNDATION! i would recommend it to anyone.. looking for a mineral foundation, and wanting that natural or concealed coverage/glowy look. hope my ranting helped! kisses! -Gabriella Desrosiers
