Beauty Product Reviews
Perfect new Spring perfume
I bought this and a bottle of the Red Hibiscus Intense, and this one is definitely my favorite of the two. I sometimes find purely floral perfumes to be too much for my sensitive nose, so I usually gravitate towards more fruity floral scents, but this one is bright and not overly heavy. Unlike the Red Hibiscus Intense, I would wear the Yellow Hibiscus by itself, but I also think it will layer well with my other scents too. In hindsight, I wish I had gotten two bottles of this one instead of one yellow and one red.
Nice enough, but not my fave
I really enjoy Jo Malone perfumes, and I was hoping to love this one too, but I find the vanilla in it to be a tad overpowering over the other scent notes. It's still a pleasant scent, and I'm sure that I will be able to layer it with some other scent to make it perfect, but I don't love this one as a standalone fragrance.
Gorgeous Shadows, Per Usual For ND
Just got this yesterday, and haven't had time to do more than arm swatches, but these shadows are beautiful to look at and a dream to apply! Really love the improved texture of the Chroma Crystal shades! While I loved the Chroma Crystal shades from the Star palette, the improved texture of those in the Sunset palette makes them a lot more user-friendly. I really like the feel of the packaging on her large palettes -- they feel very cushioned on the outside, which leads me to believe that her palettes are probably more shock (and therefore more shatter) resistant than the more plasticky hard-shell palettes out there, which is a comforting thought for any luxury-priced cosmetic item. As far as shades, I love the whole color scheme, but I'm particularly drawn to the deep red and the bright yellow shadows (don't have it in front of me to look at shade names right now). All in all, another Natasha Denona palette that is well worth money spent!
Just got this yesterday -- very impressed with this palette! I have and like Jeffree's Beauty Killer palette, but the color selection there is a bit off-the-wall and not totally cohesive for daily use by us mere mortals. The Androgyny palette, though, is just gorgeous. The colors, while still bright, are much more complementary as a whole. My only complaint with this palette is that Swallow doesn't seem to have the same strong color payoff as most of the others do (which makes me a teensy bit sad because deep blues are my spirit-animal colors). Love, love, love Deja Vu, Frosting, Charm and Fetish in particular -- striking in swatches and on the eye, and they really bring out the blue in my chameleon eyes. Love the fun added design touches of the packaging, too. All in all, I"m happy with this palette!
Was super-excited to get this after trying the color Petale de Rose that was in my Lucky Bag this year. Such a pretty collection of colors, and they smell delightful! Jouer lippies feel so light on your lips that it's hard to believe how long-lasting they are. Overall, I feel this set was money well spent, although I wouldn't miss the shade Rayanne if that was removed -- that color just does NOT look good on me. I'm pale to start with, but Rayanne instantly sucks all the color out of my face (what little I have, anyway), and corpse is generally not a look I go for, haha. The other colors more than make up for the one bad one, though.
Princess Cut and Peach Goddess are the Skin Frosts I use when I need a slightly more subtle highlight. Those two shades dont show up as prominently as the others on first swipe, but both are great for my pale skin tone. Princess Cut does seem to be a little harder in the pan than the other Skin Frosts I've tried (King Tut, Dark Horse, Ice Cold and Peach Goddess), but I don't have an issue with that, since the other shades are super-soft. All things considered, I'm happy with all the Skin Frosts I've bought.
I already own both versions of her largest palettes and love them, plus one of the 5 shade collection that I received in the last Lucky Bag. I love the texture of Natasha Denona shadows, and the colors are so rich, buttery and beautiful. I keep seeing a lot of negative reviews based on fallout, but I personally have yet to find ANY shadows this glittery that don't have some degree of fallout that's more pronounced than with good matte shadows. I think it's just the nature of the beast with very sparkly, glittery shadows because of the large amount of particulates in them, and it states very clearly in the product listing that the Crystal shadows in particular should be used with some sort of glitter glue base and patted on for best effect. I'm pretty pale, so I don't usually have a problem with color payoff with any shadows, haha, so no complaints there. I'm really happy with the matte shades in this palette, because that was probably my only issue with her other shadow collections (not enough matte base shades). As with her other shadows, you get a good amount of product, so that makes the price a little easier to swallow. Definitely not regretting this purchase!
I have quite a few shades of the Velour Liquid Lips, with many in regular rotation, but Gemini is rare in that it looks good even if I'm not wearing any other makeup. I'm pretty pale with a pronounced yellow undertone, so not a lot of lip colors look good on me without other makeup to set them off. It doesn't read quite so pink on me as the photos I've seen of others wearing it, but it looks on me almost like a blend of Celebrity Skin and a slightly paler Androgyny. (Which are both shades I use a lot as well). Looks really nice with a spot of I'm Nude or Drug Lord blended into the center as a highlight, too. I will definitely be purchasing this shade again.
I've loved every other Jeffree Star liquid lipstick that I've purchased, but I was really disappointed with this bundle. I really wanted to love these after seeing the swatch video on YouTube, sigh. The colors are all gorgeous in the tubes, and they smell delicious, but the only truly wearable shade for me was Watermelon Soda. All the other shades were way too pastel for my skin (fair with yellow undertones). Now, while colors not being flattering on me are not necessarily indicative of a product being less than stellar, I did have some issues with some of the colors that didn't relate to the shades. As I mentioned, Watermelon Soda was perfect -- no streakiness, good coverage in the first swipe, nice consistency, gorgeous summery color! Loved this one, and will most likely snatch up at least one more tube if I get an opportunity. (714) was the second best color for me, but isn't exactly wearable alone. I would need to use it as a highlight color for an ombré lip instead. Alone, this one has a good consistency, but is somewhat streaky when applied and needs multiple coats. Virginity has really good consistency and is the least streaky of the streaky colors, but the shade was just awful and pasty on me. Very sixties, and not in a good way. Nude Beach was surprisingly terrible on me as well -- I usually have good luck with his nude shades (Celebrity Skin, I'm Nude, Mannequin), but not this one. The biggest disappointment of all was Queen Bee. Not only did it look atrocious on me, it was super-streaky and had a weird thick pasty consistency to it. This shade is really unique, and I hoped that it would work for me, but it just doesn't. I could see it maybe working for a creative MUA as a pop of color in a particular look, but it's just not very wearable as a standalone color. On the upside, the packaging is a fun change of pace, and even the worst shade is still nice to smell and look at. I guess my recommendation is that if you've had good luck with wearing any matte pastels in the past, then you might have better luck than me with this bundle. If matte pastels (which are generally notoriously hard to wear) just don't work with your skin tone, then maybe stick with a single tube of Watermelon Soda so you can have the summer shade experience without the sadness of having three or four pretty but pretty useless shades in your collection. Oh well, you win some, you lose some.
Great texture
I had received a 5 pan palette in this year's Lucky Bag (#2, I believe), and fell in love with the texture and colors of the shadows. The packaging is kind of cheap-looking, especially in light of how much Natasha Denona palettes cost, but I was so impressed by the product inside that I ended up purchasing the purple/blue 28 pan palette as soon as it was made available, and then I ordered the green/brown when they were released again. Both versions have absolutely gorgeous colors and finishes, along with that supremely buttery texture. Side note, the packaging for the larger palettes is not as cheap-looking as the 5-pan palette. Although some shades look scarily disco ball sparkly in the pan, all the shades have great color payoff and easily blend out to a subtle shimmer that looks pretty and luminous, not glaring and cheap (read: you don't need to be 16 to pull these off). Also, the color payoff means that a little goes a long way, which makes the price a little easier to swallow. One great addition to the green/brown palette that was not on the purple/blue one is the shade names and numbers printed on the clear plastic overlay inside the palette. The purple/blue palette only had shade names printed on the outer box, but nowhere on the palette itself. In regards to the fallout issue mentioned by others, I do find that there's quite a bit of fallout in the palette which makes it a tad messy, but it's not surprising to me since the vast majority of the shades are pretty shimmery. I haven't noticed a fallout issue once the shadows are applied, though, so that's good. I do wish the price was a bit lower, but all things considered, I'm happy with my Natasha Denona shadows. Great packing job on Beautylish's part, so kudos to them as well!
