Beauty Product Reviews
Favorite primer
Goes on smooth and thin, yet holds your foundation. As a more mature woman, I like that it doesn't add a thick layer. It also gives a soft glow under your foundation. Pairs well with thinner foundations like Estée Luader's Double Wear Water Fresh Nude or PMG Labs Skin Fetish.
Nice for blush, highlighter, but...
Though I think that this brush is probably best for blush, highlighter, and even when tilted, you could use it as a nose, chin and cheek contouring, I tend to prefer it for powdering under the eyes or forehead, and sometimes blush. The only reason I haven't given it 5 stars, is I prefer my Wayne Goss n°2 brush for blush and more delicate uses than this one. It should really be 4 1/2 because it's a versatile brush and I think because the handle is so lovely and I dropped Worker One (eye shadow) and hurt it (that's how you feel about them since the handles are lacquered and very beautiful), I simply am a little concerned about using them as often. Weird perhaps, but I just have to relax and feel more at ease about using them.
Not as impressive as I expected
This is my first Viseart palette and I expected it to be as easy to coordinate and blend as Natasha Denona's shadows, especially from all the raving about the companies palettes. Though the shadows are smooth and blend well, the colors are true to what you see (at least not on me). They are pigmented.
Stunning sunset-themed palette!
This is a very beautiful palette for those wanting a more brown, bronze color scheme compared to ABH's Modern Renaissance or Huda's two palettes. That said, it les versatile than the Natasha's Star palette. Quality is the same as the Star palette for me. Whenever I want to make sure I can quickly and easily achieve a look for a professional or important event, I go for either Natasha Denona's palettes or an older Marc Jacobs Eyeconic palette. It's not that they're aren't other palettes out there or good products like Colored Raine's Queen of Hearts or Makeup Geek, Color Pop, or the star of them all for me, Makeup Forever (MUFE)'s singles, but Natasha's Star & Sunset palette just have the right mix and nuances to achieve a great look and they last all day (work day at least).
Updated review
I've owned it now for awhile and after a lot of hunting around for others experiences, I learned how to work with it, which basically is lightly getting the product on the brushes, going back to pick up powder left in the pan, having a pat-on technique versus swirling product around technique (save light circular movement for blending on the brow). And for the glitter textures, using a medium like a fixing get or spray (or even mineral oil). Now this is one of my favorite palettes.
Does what it should, sparkle!
This is a very good quality palette for pigmented eye shadow without medium. What need be said more. And yes, you can find similar for less. However, it won't have the quality of this one for those who are more ingredient conscience.
Updated comment on Why Oh Why?
I decided to keep the palette, but that after some work learning how to work the shimmer and glitter shades and a few combinations of shades (looks) I was able to achieve. I recommend that you review Natasha Denona's detailed video on the Star Palette and even her 28 color palette videos (like the video on the Purple-blue version). She discusses her techniques, brush type needed, etc., and it REALLY helped me. In the end though, I achieve the best pigmentation for the glitter formulas with mineral oil (I'm sure some other oil would do). I raised the rating to a four, but 3 1/2 would have been most appropriate. I raised it due to the beautiful colors and combinations you can achieve. So far this is my go-to palette for the fall and soon winter.
Why oh why! Such mixed feelings about this palette
Finally it arrived and I couldn't even wait to leave work before applying a few colors at the end of the workday. And then the disappointment...the colors just aren't as pigmented on the eyelid as when swatched. So I thought, once I'm home, do my face over, all will be better. And no, after trying different combinations (as suggested, vertical, horizontal, diagonal or my own) the colors, though VERY beautiful individually and in combination are not very pigmented without layering or a mixing fluid. Second, the shimmer colors pretty much have to be applied as Natasha Denona demonstrates in her video, with your finger. And the glitter ones are like one YouTuber mentioned, almost like loose eye glitter and need a liquid or cream to hold them. The best thing I found was mineral oil (so some type of light eye serum oil would probably work as well). This kept the great color and boosted the pigmentation and adherence. Another positive note though, the color lasted for a while (nearly all day for me). So the obvious issue is due to the price, you don't want to have to REALLY work hard to make a palette work. I expected everything to just flow on smoothly, so it is quite a let down when you have great colors, but can't achieve a pop-eye catching look without doing near pro techniques to achieve it. I'm on day two and even after getting the Urban Decay Moondust palette (to console myself, but the colors are the same), almost getting Too Faced's Christmas palette (a definite one to consider if you prefer paying less, as the glitter-like colors are't bad at all), and getting a GREAT Dior new single Lustrous Smoky Mono called "Fire" that reminds me a lot of Natasha's shimmer/glitter colors, but has a better texture), I'm trying hard to justify keeping the Star Palette.
Lastly, if you don't like fallout, forget this palette! There is a LOT of fallout, in particular the glitter shades.
Update on my previous comment - Blends well (sorry for the previous typo)
After washing, it has't shed, so I kept it. I think N° 2 is his best brush. I get more use out of it than this one, but if you want a flatter cheek, contour type brush, this will do well.
Initially concerned, but it blenders very well
I have about three or four of Wayne's brushes and they are theist (at least their my most expensive and best quality). Initially though when I used this one, it shed (three or four hairs) and I've never had that happen with his brushes nor my Zoeva's, MAC's, etc., so I was concerned that I may have a defective brush. I finished using it to buff and blend my foundation and powder over, which it did perfectly, and then washed it. I'm waiting to use it again, and if the shedding continues, I'll return it to Beautylish because I KNOW his brushes are excellent quality.
