Beauty Product Reviews
Hair shedding is tooooo much to make it worthwhile!
After reading many reviews (esp buying an expensive product that you haven't yet touch/feel), even though people recommending this GSN-2 for foundation over GSN-5, I decided to buy both since they are different shapes. I feel that GSN-2 is more stippling and buffing motion and GSN-5 is more for gliding, swiping motion. I haven't used GSN-5 yet for foundation (use for cream blush so far). GSN-2 is a good, dense brush and it does the foundation perfectly. But OMG, it sheds and sheds and sheds!!!! I understand that there is a shedding period with all new brushes (some shed more than other). I agree with one of the reviewer, I spent more time to pick out the hairs on my face than doing the make up application. I feel tickle on my skin and there is a hair. Each application, I would have any where between 8-10 hairs consistently. This is NOT normal for a high end hand made fude. This is my first Chikuhodo (beside the GSN-5 bought at the same time), I am disappointed and don't know if I want to buy more from the brand. I am used to and love the rounded brush for buffing motion....but this is so so disappointing. I will wash the brush one more time and give it a few more days. If the hairs continue to shed, I will have to contact Beautylish for options. Like of one of the reviewer said, am I getting a dub? If you are considering this, it's an expensive brush and decent for the job but beware of potential shedding. If you don't mind picking hairs out from your freshly applied foundation, go for it.
Still exploring the best the brush has to offer!
I was going back and forth between this brush and sculpt two. I figured this came out after sculpt two and that it’s un-dye hairs (able to use on cream products), this maybe a better brush. I also purchased sculpt two later (curiosity kills the cat). So far I have used this for contour and highlight with just powder products. Contour was ok…needs blending/buffing as you should. I used the longer bristles side for highlighter… this to me gives better use of the brush. I haven’t used this to apply blush as I have a more favorable brush for that. I do like to have the versatility to use for multiple purposes as less brush cleaning is better. I am still learning (this was my first fan brush), hopefully I will make good used of the brush. It’s well made, luxurious feel, super soft. If you are curious to try one fan brush…. I think sculpt two is a better choice. Although I just got it yesterday and tried it once but I feel that it’s more dense; thus, gives better application and blending/buffing look.
Good but not great as foundation brush
This was my first SG brush (bought this with sculpt four). Read reviews and watched YT, decided to buy this for foundation. I was excited to try. Mehhh….it’s not bad but it’s not a wow factor. The brush is gorgeous and well made. No fall out at all, bristles are soft. Bristles width is a bit small in my opinion as liquid foundation brush (preference I m using GA luminous silk, TF traceless foundation, Chantecaile future solution, etc.). It took some time to get the job done. Perhaps I am used to rounded brush (like Chikuhodo GSN 02 brush shape). I see some streaks… nothing setting powder can’t fix. One of the reviewers said the original Base One had bigger bristles width, maybe that would be better. I used the brush for cream blush today (as I m just starting to use cream blush), I found it to be patchy application. I am not sure if I didn’t use it correctly. I still like to have it in my brush jar but probably will be be reaching for it much. Btw, easy to quickly spray n clean with brush cleaner spay (or w cleansing micellar water… yes works great to have a quick clean after each use). I am glad I get to try it out thou.
