Beauty Product Reviews
All-around beautiful
This is a much more luxe product than the tinted balms that were popular at the drugstores a few years ago. The pigmentation is very nice, and it feels amazing on the lips. I love the outer packaging because it looks very high-end and modern, though it does seem like a departure for Becca. There's no scent or flavor, which I like as I do wear this as an everyday lip color. Ginger Vanille is the perfect peachy shade on my pale skin, and it goes so nicely with a variety of looks. The product is another solid addition to Becca's line.
Not perfect, but very good for the price.
Like other reviewers have said, this product can pill. I am also using The Ordinary's Lactic Acid 5%, and the texture is pretty similar and I have the same issue with that one as well. However, if I apply this and let it sink in for about 3-5 minutes, I barely experience any pilling at all. The texture is kind of a watery gel, so it does feel dry to the touch pretty quickly, but it seems like it needs a little time to really settle onto the skin before other products are applied. I have used it both day and night and had good results, though I prefer it at night. I am almost 33 years old and I have suffered from acne for as long as I can remember, and most OTC treatments do not work well for me. I have a very nourishing skincare routine that I like a lot, but it was missing a component to keep breakouts at bay and I believe that this is the product I have been searching for. It is not drying, as most anti-acne products can be, and it also isn't irritating. I have sensitive skin that is also prone to rosacea, so I am always nervous when adding anti-acne products into my routine. I have been using the Niacinamide for about a month almost daily and my skin is definitely clearer and my pores do seem somewhat refined. I will never expect any product to eliminate them completely or reduce their size, but they do just seem a lot less clogged. Unlike the Lactic Acid 5%, this serum seems to have no naturally occurring scent, which is nice. I would recommend this if you struggle with acne and sensitive skin, because I have found it to be both gentle and effective.
Effective and strong
When I first began using this product, I used to too frequently and did not have great results. I wasn't discouraged, though, so I decided to give it another shot. I layered this over the Paula's Choice Calm Anti-Redness Serum, and in combination these two products have drastically improved my skin in just a matter of weeks. I probably still wouldn't use it nightly, but every other day seems to do the trick and still give results that last. I think that for me the 10% version would be too much, as this is a gentler version for people with more sensitive skin or who aren't used to acids in their skincare routines. I am not so in love with the texture (watery-gel), but if I apply it and let it sink in for about 3-5 minutes it layers nicely with other products. The smell is also kinda icky; to me, it smells a little like cheap maple syrup. The results are worth these minor issues though, so I definitely recommend this product.
Perfection!
I have always been drawn to shadows this color (like UD Sin, MAC Jest, etc.) I have pale skin and blue eyes, and pale peachy pinky golds are always the easiest for me to pull off. Barely Branded is in the same vein, I don't find it to be over the top metallic, but more of a pearly finish. I can wear it alone, or with shadow over the top. On my somewhat oily lids it lasts at least 10 hours. I think that Maybelline might have tweaked the formula slightly, because Barely Branded is much easier to spread/blend than some of the original Color Tattoos.
Kinda too dark
Since I have very fair skin, this one is a bit dark to use as a base or as an all-over shadow. Its nice as a liner, but I wish it was as versatile as some of the other Color Tattoo shadows.
Great everyday shade!
This is probably my favorite Color Tattoo (tied with Barely Branded.) It has just the right hint of metallic, and it wears very nicely. I usually use this one as a wash of color over the whole lid & under the lower lashes and just slap on some mascara. It is a great time saver for minimal makeup days. The color is very pretty, and I get excellent wear out of it, at least 10 hours, but usually more. For me, it wears better than MAC Paint Pots in similar finishes.
Might be a good alternative to NYX Milk?
I am not really a big fan of white bases, but if you like them, this one might be for you. Too Cool is a slightly blue-based white with some fine shimmer. It does perform nicely as a base, but on its own it is not nearly as pigmented as other Color Tattoo shades. Sadly, it is not my favorite, but I do use it sometimes on my bottom lash line as an alternative to white or nude liner.
Very bold and pigmented
Fierce & Tangy is a bright yellowish orange that is quite pigmented. I find this one a bit harder to spread than some of the others (especially the newer shades), but with a little patience it is worth it. I've used this as a base for other orange shadows, but I really prefer it on its own with a golden brown or dark grey crease. I've also seen some cool FOTDs with orange and mint, so I want to try that sometime soon as well. Like all of the Color Tattoo shadows it wears very well, even on my oily lids I don't get any creasing after 10 hours.
I have pale skin and blue-grey eyes and this is seriously the perfect duo for me. The ivory shade has a really pretty muti-colored shimmer to it, and the grey isn't overly blue or purple. This duo is great for every day looks, but you can also add in black shadow and liner to go with a pale smokey eye. For me, even with my oily eyelids, the wear is superior. I've only tried a few NARS products, but this one is definitely the best.
This duo is so pretty. The green side is the perfect emerald color, and the ivory makes a nice highlighter on paler skin. The wear is great, and while the ivory shade is a little bit chalky, it doesn't really show on the skin. It isn't a cheap duo by any means, but if you want a versatile green shadow, I say it is worth it.
