Hello Christian! My name is Donna and I wanted to ask you a quick question. I have Lupus and I came across your review of the RMS "UN" POWDER, powder. Your review was glowing and I was curious if you still liked it now as much as you did in 2013? If not, can you make any other recommendations? Thank you in advance for your time.
Hi! I do still love it! I have switched over to the tinted version in Medium, but I definitely am still a big fan! RMS Beauty has proven to be an excellent brand for the sensitive skin that Lupus causes. Since I've switched over to natural brands, I have noticed that my butterfly rash is showing up a LOT less often. :)
I apologize for not realizing that my spell check butchered your name. Thank you so much for responding! Luckily I very rarely get my butterfly rash, but to do so, I had to give up some of my most loved hobbies... Scuba Diving for example. Now I am covered on my entire arms & legs with permanent open sores and my Vitamin D level has been at 6 for over 4 years. This is separate from the facial rash. I am absolutely terrified that what's on my body will turn up on my face. Per Doctor's orders, I have had to throw out every single thing in my makeup collection including makeup brushes. You mentioned that you have switched to Natural Brands with success. Problem for me is that after 3 1/2 years of research, I don't know of any. I know you will totally understand when I say this, but I need to find a foundation that I can wear on those days I wake up with Transparent skin with that grotesque yellowish tinge, like a dead person. I don't expect you to make me a list or anything because I am happy with mascara, blush and lipstick on good days, but would you mind pointing me in the right direction of where I can find a great foundationd & concealer? Again, I can't thank you enough for responding! Thank you for your kindness 😊
Sorry it's taken me so long to get back to you! I've been sick (I caught a cold from my husband and the stress of it on my weak immune system caused me to get shingles, again). I definitely get all of what you're saying! Lupus is a hard thing, especially for us women, because it not only greatly affects your body from within, but it can have effects on your physical appearance from scarring to skin issues to hair loss and weight gain (depending on your meds). I've had Lupus since I was 16, so I've had it for 10 years, and I totally understand what you're going through. I am more than happy to make you a list of good, green brands that work well for me!
FOR COSMETICS:
- RMS -
This is a really good one! I really love their lip balm, concealer, lip2cheek and their living luminizer! They're amazing, and really creamy, so they melt right into your skin.
- Josie Maran -
She has a great line! From lotions to foundation and everything in between. My favorite things to use from her line are the Argan Colorsticks (amazing for blush and tinted lip balm), and your body butters and whipped argan oil intensive hand cream. I don't really use foundation, I just spot treat with concealer (because I'm lazy lol), but I've heard pretty good things about her foundation.
- Bite Beauty -
Bite Beauty is strictly a lip line, and they definitely do their expertise well. They have a crazy range of colors and finished, and only use food grade ingredients.
- Korres -
Their volcanic minerals volumizing mascara is awesome! I'm half black, half Japanese, and I definitely got the Asian, straight, short lashes, and this stuff makes a big difference for me!
- Tarte -
This is a really good brand. If you prefer powder blushes to creams, then I suggest their Amazonian Clay Blushes, for sure. These are my favorite powder blushes. They have a whole bunch of colors and offer both matte finishes and shimmer finishes.
- Kjaer Weis -
This brand is pretty expensive, but I have the foundation, which I use for spot treatment, and it's really nice. And even though it's a bit costly, a little bit goes a long way, so it actually lasts for a while. It give a nice, semi-matte finish. Their cream blushes are awesome, too, as well as their eyeshadows.
- W3ll People -
They have a really nice Foundation + Concealer Stick.
- 100% Pure -
They have a lot of foundations and tinted moisturizers. I have not used them, but they have a lot of good reviews, and have options if you like a more dewy finish.
...and if you like mineral makeup...
Alima Pure and Everyday Minerals are both really great brands. I especially like their bronzers.
FOR SKINCARE:
- MyChelle -
They have so many different options depending on your needs and skin type. I looove their facial mists (I use them as toners), and their facial cleansers. (I use the brightening line for old scarring I have from when I used to get my Lupus rash on my face, and from when I had shingles on my face). Plus, they smell amazing.
- Acure Organics -
Another great line. It doesn't have as many options as MyChelle does, but it is a little less expensive, and they now sell it at Target, which makes it a little more accessible.
- Alba Botanica -
They have a great skincare line. I especially like the Good & Clean collection. It works well, is gentle, and smells great. Their body lotions are also really good. I like the Very Emollient line. I'm currently obsessed with the new coconut rescue one.
- Jason Naturals -
Great shampoo and conditioners, and I use their body wash, which you get a huge amount of for a good price.
FOR SUN PROTECTION:
Of course, sunsceen is crucial with Lupus! Here are the brands I use everyday.
- MDSolaSciences-
I use their Mineral Crème Broad Spectrum SPF 50 UVA-UVB Sunscreen as my daily facial sunscreen. It absorbs so well into the skin, and it doesn't leave you greasy or with a weird, greyish cast. Also, it leaves a pretty matte finish, which is what I need since I have combination skin, but it's really gentle at the same time, which works with the sensitivity of my skin from Lupus.
- Coola -
I use their spray on sunscreens for my body, and I pat a little bit of the Face SPF30 Cucumber Moisturizer on the part of my hair to protect my scalp from the sun, also.
