Beauty Product Reviews
This is replacing one of my other oils!
I've been using Good Molecules products for almost 2 years now with great results - for the oils, I started with the Squalane and Hydrating oils from the original Super Seven, but for the past year+ I've been using the Squalane and Rosehip Seed oils instead.
I had some issues with the Rosehip Seed oil when it was new to the line in the beginning with scent and GM was kind enough to send me a new bottle as a replacement that was fine. Still a little scent that I wasn't that fond of, but not like the first bottle, and I've re-purchased since as well. Because of the scent, I generally only used the Squalane and Rosehip Seed oils in the daytime, and went with just the Squalane alone at night.
With the Bakuchiol oil, I decided to try the oily skin version - my skin is more normal than oily, but skews more towards oily than dry. I saw it has Rosehip Seed oil as well so I thought that was great, if I like this I can still get that benefit too as well as the other benefits of the Bakuchiol.
After a couple of weeks of use, I am definitely going to use this Bakuchiol in place of the Rosehip Seed oil! Not getting any real discernible scent with this one, so I'll use it along with the Squalane oil both daytime and at night. I kind of hate retinol - the results are nice, but I hate using it - so I'm happy to use this natural retinol alternative and am looking forward to seeing what the results are down the line! Thanks GM!
Well.... Hmmm. Meh.
I'm a huge fan of Good Molecules products and my whole routine is based around GM products, and when I saw there was a new toner, I wanted to try it and had it in my shopping bag for a while... then during the recent sale when I saw it was a free gift with purchase, I decided yep, I'm trying it now for sure!
I wanted to like the new toner so much or at least a little, but I just really don't. I used it for about a week instead of the Niacinamide toner, and could tell a difference the whole time - it just felt kind of tacky on face and gloopy to me and didn't give me the "fresh" base feeling I like from a toner before going on to the rest of my routine.
I've kind of been hoping Good Molecules would come out with a new toner of some kind that might appeal a little more to me than the Niacinamide (I like the idea of niacinamide, but it's an ingredient I feel like I could kind of take it or leave it), but this new toner isn't it.
Mind you, I don't hate this new toner, per se - it's "okay", but it definitely makes my face feel different and not in a good way. I never liked the Overnight Exfoliating Treatment either, so I guess I should steer clear of anything "exfoliating", "glycolic", etc.
In any case, yeah, again, it's "okay", I don't hate it, but I think I'll just stick with the Niacinamide toner for now. *shrug*
This Serum Assassinates Fine Lines + Wrinkles!
I have an older review of GM's Super Peptide Serum here, so consider this an update. I've been using Good Molecules products for almost 2 years now, and though I've changed my routine here and there, the Super Peptide Serum has been a mainstay throughout.
I don't have a ton of wrinkles or fine lines, but when I started using GM, I had this one line/wrinkle along the side of my mouth going towards my chin that really bugged me and was one of the biggest reasons I decided to start a skincare routine (which I'd really never bothered with before) in the first place.
After 2 years of mostly daily use - that stupid line is barely visible! It's there, but you have to look a lot harder to see it, whereas before it pretty much jumped out at me every time I looked in the mirror. I am VERY happy with this result, and I feel like the Super Peptide Serum is the product mostly responsible for this wonderful change!
(I say mostly daily use as I slack some days, and especially was slacking for the last several months until a few weeks ago - yet still that facial line that bugged me is barely visible!)
It may well be a combination of the Super Peptide Serum and the GM facial oils I use - I was using the Squalane and Rosehip oils for most of the last year or so, have recently switched the Rosehip out for the new Bakuchiol (for oily) oil, I still feel like the Super Peptide Serum is the main worker tho. (I also use the Daily Brightening and Discoloration serums most days.)
If I was going to pare down my serums to just one, the Super Peptide Serum is the one I won't live without, for sure! I have used Retinol in the past and sure, maybe I would have gotten quicker results with a potent Retinol serum, but for the gentleness of the Super Peptide Serum and ESPECIALLY the price, that can't be beat - I've no problem with a slower + steadier routine that still tackled my worst problem area face-wise!
I am incredibly happy with the results of this serum and ecstatic that that one stupid line that has bugged me for so long is no longer jumping out at me every time I look in the mirror! :)
Feels So Good, Feels So Soft!
Even though I've built a skincare routine I like around Good Molecules products, I was on the fence about the new Pineapple Exfoliating Powder but decided to try it anyway. I wasn't really a fan of the Overnight Exfoliating Serum and dropped it from my routine a long time ago - I loved that it was a serum, but I didn't much care for the scent and it didn't seem to do much for me. So onto the new Pineapple thingy!
The first time I used the Pineapple powder, I wasn't too sure about it. I used it at the sink and found it a little messy and not very convenient to use that way, and decided next time I'd try it while in the shower.
The next time when I used it in the shower - perfect! I agree with the poster who says it takes a little getting your method down with how much water to add to it, but once you do, it feels great while using it on your face and once you're done and out of the shower - my face just feels wonderful and super soft! I definitely am getting the same sort of softness I get with a bit pricier brand I've used occasionally and love the way the Pineapple powder makes my face feel! If there's a scent at all it's super light, I can't really discern much of any scent at all - that's a bonus as far as I'm concerned.
I don't usually shower every single day - usually 3-4 times a week - so this will work into my shower routine well 3-4x weekly, and I do believe it will probably 100% replace the (also somewhat pricier) other exfoliating facial scrub I've been using regularly in the shower up to now. After the first time I used it I was pretty on the fence and not sure if I would buy it again down the line, but after a week or so of use I'm all in! Definitely will continue to use the Pineapple Exfoliating Powder and buy it again. A++!
Great Value + Nice Results for the Price!
I'm a fan of most all of the other Good Molecules products, so when they came out with the Silicone-Free Priming Moisturizer, I decided to order it right away! So far, so good!
I've never been a big fan of makeup primers (and I don't use makeup every day, usually a couple of times a week) but it does do very well under makeup and layers nicely with everything else I use in my face routine daily.
I'm also not generally a big fan of moisturizers in general - most of them are way too gloopy and gloppy for me - but being over 50, I know I need moisturizing & hydrating in my daily routine so I was willing to give this one a try.
This moisturizer is definitely NOT gloopy and gloppy! The texture is really nice, really just right, and it goes on pretty white but absorbs well and isn't greasy at all, and feels really good on my face with no breaking out whatsoever + no smell whatsoever (yay, big plus!). I really only need to use a little bit on my face and neck, so this bottle will definitely last me a long time.
If I'm going to stick to using a moisturizer daily, this one from GM will definitely be the one! For me personally, though, I already use a sunscreen that contains a lot of moisturizing ingredients as well as several of the GM face oils (including the Squalane Oil twice daily, which I'm totally in love with)... and I don't really have issues with dry skin, my face tends to lean towards the oily side but not really.
All that said, at this point I'm on the fence about whether I really need this extra addition to my routine or not since I'm already using 3 serums + 1-3 face oils + moisturizer-laden sunscreen daily, but I'm going to use this bottle of moisturizer until it's empty and see how things go from there before I make an absolute decision.
But definitely if I do decide to continue with a moisturizer, this GM Moisturizer will be it! And if you're an always-daily-moisturizer user, it's definitely worth a try!
Slow + Steady Wins the Race, But It DOES Work!
I initially purchased the Brighten, Correct, & Boost set along with the Super Seven + Instant Cleansing Balm, and the Niacinamide Brightening Toner, all as my first experience using Good Molecules 4 months ago. I reviewed the BC&B set two months later in October and mentioned then that I was super happy with + had been starting to see good results with almost everything in the set, after the first week I'd decided to discontinue using the Daily Brightening Serum after doing some research, plus I felt like I didn't really need everything I was using at the time. I put the bottle in a drawer after the first week and left it at that.
A couple of weeks after I left that review and getting to the point of running low on some GM products + needing to make some decisions about which products I was going to reorder, I changed my regimen up and started using the Daily Brightening Serum again. I decided to discontinue the Niacinamide and Hyaluronic Acid serums from my initial Super Seven purchase, and instead use the Daily Brightening Serum (since it contains hyaluronic acid as well as the tranexamic acid) and the Discoloration Correcting Serum (since it contains niacinamide) instead, as it'd seemed like overkill to try and fit everything I was trying to fit into my routine. As I said in a recent review of the Discoloration Correcting Serum, I feel like continuing to use these two along with the Super Peptide Serum, the Niacinamide Toner, and a few times weekly with the Vitamin C Booster Powder is addressing all of my concerns and will give me continued good results without the overkill of using too many serums.
After passing 50, I've had some patchy darkening on my face as well as some probably somewhat hereditary dark circles under my eyes, and these are really helping. I was definitely seeing results in the first and second weeks of using all of the GM brightening/discoloration products.
A little over 2 months later I can definitely see even stronger results - my skin looks & feels better than it ever has, my fine lines are still there but very much reduced, and while my face still shows some light darkened patches, it has definitely improved from what it was!
Besides all of the abovementioned products and the Instant Cleansing Balm, I'm also currently trying out GM's new moisturizer. With the serums and all GM products, they all layer very well, layer well under makeup, absorb nicely and there's never any pilling.
I wish I'd realized when I placed my first GM order that I really didn't need everything I ordered the first time, but you never really know until you try! Anyone fighting dark patches/other discoloration problems and that really needs brightening help I feel will likely be best suited using the products in the Brighten, Correct & Boost set + the Super Peptide Serum and the toner. If you don't really have those problems and don't need brightening help, then the serums in the Super Seven should suit you just fine.
In any case, I certainly recommend the Daily Brightening Serum and the Discoloration Correcting Serum (and the Vitamin C powder, I love that stuff!) + the Niacinamide Toner for anyone else with some of the patchy issues I have had, whether you're over 50 or not - it's definitely worth a try. and I'm definitely seeing results
This is a Great Oil! (Especially if you have dry skin and/or need to solve aging problems!)
I initially wrote about the Rosehip Seed Oil in November '19 when reviewing the Face Oil Set and praised the Squalane and Ultra-Hydrating oils (I've been a huge fan of both ever since initially trying them in the Super Seven set I purchased the previous August), but mentioned in that review (which I have now positive a more positive update to as well) that at the time I wasn't too pleased with the Rosehip Seed Oil because of a fishy-type scent that just wouldn't go away and could smell all over - in my hair, in my pillow, in everything. Beautylish's fabulous staff reached out to me about the issue and wound up sending me a second bottle to try with the thoughts that maybe I'd just gotten a bad batch bottle.
Thrilled to report that the replacement bottle of the Rose Hip oil turned out to be MUCH better and I indeed must have just lucked out getting a bad bottle the first time! I'm still observing a VERY faint bit of scent with the new bottle of Rosehip oil, but it's more of a plant-based smell than the "fishy" smell I'd gotten from the first bottle - a major improvement from my first experience with the Rosehip oil! Very happy now + it feels really good on my face!
I've been using it + the Squalane in the a.m. and the Squalane + Ultra-Hydrating in the p.m. and been very pleased, although to be honest since I don't have much of a problem with dry skin on my face and my face leans towards oily but not really, when the current bottles are done (I'm now on my second bottles of Squalane + Ultra-Hydrating as well) I'm not sure that I'm going to proceed with using all three daily because I'm not really sure I need all that much in my routine, especially now that I've been trying out Good Molecules' new moisturizer as well, so I'm not sure I'm going to continue with the Rosehip Seed Oil - not because it's not good because the replacement bottle I got is definitely just fine + nothing wrong with it, I just feel for me personally 1-2 oils in my daily routine is really all I likely need personally.
And like the entire Good Molecules line, it layers wonderfully under makeup and there's no pilling at all.
I *do* think the Rosehip Seed Oil will likely work especially well for those who have a lot of problems with dry skin (I don't) and/or need a *lot* of hydration daily. If you have a lot of dry skin/aging problems, definitely this is worth a try! For me personally I'm more of a "less is more" and I feel like using all the oils + the new GM moisturizer is just too much for me personally, so I'm paring down to what I feel suits my not-that-dry skin best.
Also I can't say enough good about the fab Beautylish team - I didn't reach out to them about a refund or replacement for the initial bottle of Rosehip oil since it was part of a set (per their terms of service), but they reached out to me anyway and made it right - big A+++ there and really wowed me that they were willing to work with me on the issue + made what was an initially disappointing situation a fantastic experience! Thanks Beautylish, y'all are awesome + now have a customer for life! :-)
Update: Changed My Mind About the Rose Hip Seed Oil!
I wrote a review in November '19 about the Face Oil Set praising the Squalane and Ultra-Hydrating oils, but mentioned I wasn't too pleased with the Rose Hip Seed Oil because of a fishy-type scent that just wouldn't go away and could smell all over - in my hair, in my pillow, in everything. I'm still observing a very faint bit of scent, but it's more of a plant-based smell than the "fishy" smell I'd gotten from the first bottle, and that's WAY better than my first experience from the oil! Very happy now + it feels really good on my face!
I've been using it + the Squalane in the a.m. and the Squalane + Ultra-Hydrating in the p.m. and been very pleased, although to be honest since I don't have much of a problem with dry skin on my face and my face leans towards oily but not really, when the current bottles are done (I'm now on my second bottles of Squalane + Ultra-Hydrating as well) I'm not sure that I'm going to proceed with using all three daily because I'm not really sure I need all that much in my routine, especially now that I've been trying out Good Molecules' new moisturizer as well.
I've been a HUGE fan of the Squalane (especially!) + the Ultra-Hydrating oils for going on four months now and I know I will definitely continue with the Squalane (likely for the rest of my life, I love it!). Probably not continue with the Rose Hip Seed Oil - not because it's not good because the replacement bottle I got is definitely just fine + nothing wrong with it, I just feel for me personally 1-2 oils in my daily routine is really all I likely need.
As for the Ultra-Hydrating oil, I do kinda love the idea of using sea buckthorn, and I'm still on the fence about GM's new moisturizer (not because it's not good - it is, I like it! - just not sure for me personally I need as much product as I'm using right now, plus the sunscreen I currently use has moisturizer as well)... so down the line I think I will probably drop one of the two from my routine, or else drop them both + just stick with the Squalane only. The jury's still out for now, but we'll see - for now I'm continuing to use all three until I'm out again and need to decide what to reorder.
Also I can't say enough good about the fab Beautylish team - I didn't reach out to them about a refund or replacement since it was part of a set (per their terms of service), but they reached out to me anyway and made it right - big A+++ there and really wowed me that they were willing to work with me on the issue + made what was an initially disappointing situation a fantastic experience! This Is the #1 Results-Giver in the GM Line!
I originally got the Super Peptide Serum in my first order of the Super Seven and have fallen in love with it! The bottle's lasted me almost 3 months and I've just recently purchased a second bottle. It's definitely one of the three things in the GM line I won't live without and feel has given me the most results, along with the Squalane Oil... I basically have loved almost everything I've ordered that's Good Molecules and am still using most of them, but the Super Peptide Serum, the Squalane Oil, and the Instant Cleansing Balm are definitely the three things I absolutely will not live without!
This stuff is magic & absolutely gives results! I definitely see ongoing improvement in my fine lines with continued use of this serum, especially the ones around my mouth. Unless you're super sensitive I don't think you have to worry about what some have mentioned about the scent - it's so super light I don't really get any scent from this serum at all, and it doesn't feel sticky or tacky at all.
As far as I'm concerned, the Super Peptide Serum is the #1 results-giver in the whole line!
Does What It Says It Does!
I originally purchased the Discoloration Correcting Serum as part of GM's Brighten, Correct & Boost set, and originally I was a fan of this serum + the Vitamin C Booster Powder and not so much with the Daily Brightening Serum and had decided to quit using that one - since then though, I've changed my mind and am using it again now, as well as the Discoloration Correcting Serum + the Vitamin C powder.
I have now just about finished my first bottle of Discoloration Correcting Serum (it lasted me about 3 months) as well as having recently purchased my 2nd bottle of the Niacinamide Toner, and I really believe primarily these two products daily + the Vitamin C powder used a few days a week have really helped brighten and even out my skin, especially with the darker patches I've developed on my face with age at over 50 now.
What I've changed in recent weeks with my regimen is I've discontinued using the Niacinamide Serum, and plan to discontinue using the Hyaluronic Acid serum once I finish off that bottle, and instead using the Daily Brightening Serum (since it has hyaluronic acid in it) and the Discoloration Correcting Serum (since it has niacinamide in it) in place of those two. It seemed like overkill to try to fit them all or most of them in, and I feel like continuing to use these two along with the Super Peptide Serum, the Niacinamide Toner, and a few times weekly with the Vitamin C Booster Powder is addressing all of my concerns and will give me continued good results without the overkill of using too many serums.
I certainly recommend this for anyone else with some of the patchy issues I have had, whether you're over 50 or not - it's definitely worth a try!
