Beauty Product Reviews
Love the shape but it does indeed shed
This is my first Wayne Goss brush and I was thrilled to get it from Beautylish for 50% off. I did wonder why it was so deeply discounted. I read the reviews about people's brushes shedding and hoped that either it wasn't as bad as it sounded or I'd get a good one. The deal was too good to pass up!
First of all, I LOVE this shape for a natural bristle brush. It is the most versatile size and shape for my makeup application needs. The WG #13 is relatively soft, though I wish it were a little bit softer. I use it for powder, bronzer and blush. I've used it for highlighter and it did an OK job, but I still prefer a small tapered brush for highlighter.
It is true, the brush sheds and sheds sort of excessively. I notice the hairs that shed are most often very short, which tells me that the length of the individual goat hairs they used are not uniform. I've seen this kind of shedding with lower quality brushes. I don't know whether that's an indication of the quality of the goat hairs used or not, but so far given the mediocre softness of the bristles and how it sheds, I wouldn't pay full price for this brush. For $26.50 though, it was a good buy and I will continue to use it. I do hope the shedding stops after some time in use and a few more washes.
I forgot to mention that mine doesn't shed so much that I'm deterred from using it. It's just a hair here and there that gets stuck to my face. I see a few loose hairs ready to come out every time I look at it as well. The friction of the brush against my face seems to jostle these rogue hairs up to the surface so they come out easily. It does apply and blend powder products nicely and I'm happy to have it. Just hope those loose hairs work their way out eventually.
AHHMAZING value
Oh man. The Ordinary makes me so happy. I'm so pleased to have access to all of these wonderful skincare products that are affordable and effective! I love stacking my skincare and The Ordinary makes it possible to do so at an amazing price. This glycolic toner works just as well if not better than the Pixi Glow tonic and you get about triple the product for half the price. I know a glycolic toner is working when I get that subtle tingle on my face and my skin feels baby soft. That's what this toner does. It gently sluffs off dead skin leaving a glowing complexion behind. I don't saturate the cotton square, I just use enough to sweep over my face and it doesn't take much. This ginormous bottle will last me a very long time and for the price!? I can't get over it. This is one of my favorites from them and I'll always have it in my repertoire of skincare.
Most amazing loose pigments period.
Inglot pigments as a whole are my absolute 100% favorite favorite loose pigments of all time. They're so underrated. Every one I own far surpasses all other pigments I've used and I've tried a lot. The texture of the powder is perfect. The glittery ones are a bit more chunky, but that's only because they contain glitter. The metallics are my favorite! They're smooth, buttery and just a tap in the product is all you need. They're dense and almost fluffy. Not powdery to where they get everywhere when you apply them. Typically I need to wet my brush when working with loose pigments but that extra step is not necessary with these. 61 was the first I ever owned. 61 is a gorgeous neutral pinky mauve metallic. It's a good every day kind of color but not so basic as a champagne or gold. It's very pretty to look at and it really makes my brown eyes pop! Ugh I can't rave enough about these pigments.
Juicy lips
I LOVE the Jouer Lip Topper in Frost Bite. It's the only one I own but I plan to purchase St. Tropez as well. It gives so much sparkle and shine to my lips. I have full lips naturally, but I love to add a bit more intrigue to my lips by topping matte or satin lipsticks with this or even using it on its own. It's a light thin formula, which I don't mind. But any bit if drinking or eating removes the topper and just some flecks of sparkle are left behind. They are called long wearing but I don't find that to be true for me and I'm not rough on my lips (if that's a thing). Because I find it to be so unique and such a nice addition to my makeup repertoire I still give it 5 stars. If you like the look of full, juicy lips then you will enjoy these!
Favorite from the Ordinary so far...
This is a very interesting product. It's my favorite from everything I've tried from the Ordinary. It actually FEELS like it's working. I take about two or three drops on my hands and pat it onto my skin as the second to last step before moisturizer. It's not moisturizing on it's own. I only use this once or twice a week. It has an interesting consistency that's like a very thin oil, but not greasy at all. It feels similar to a dry oil that absorbs very quickly. Be careful with it though because I could see it causing a reaction if used in excess. Follow the directions! It's potents stuff! It doesn't mildly tingle like a lactic or glycolic acid. It more like burns for about 45 seconds, but it's tolerable and you get used to it. Sometimes I don't feel a thing. It's usually when I've skipped over it for a week or get caught up using other products and then go back to it that I feel the sting. I quite like the feeling though. And it's so worth it because my skin is super soft and feels and looks rejuvenated the next morning. It's like my skin got all of it's nutrients overnight. The antioxidant benefit and protection from free radicals is mostly why I use this. Lipoic acid is also supposed to be amazing for anti-aging, but I am 30 and don't have noticeable wrinkles yet (yet) so I havn't noticed the anti-aging thing thus far. Considering how it feels, I don't doubt at all it works for that! I do have slightly sensitive skin on my face, so keep that in mind. I don't think everyone will experience the sting, but it's something to be aware of. I have researched it just to be sure it wasn't my skin reacting poorly to the product, and I've read this can happen. I've never broken out or gotten a rash from it and my skin never turns red from it. My skin rather drinks it up and I totally see results, so I know it's a good kind of sting. However, avoid contact with water on your face once you've applied it because for some reason water amplifies the sting by about ten fold. I made that mistake last night when I sprayed rose water on my face directly after this ( I sometimes like to spray a mist before applying an oil to help it spread better). The water took the sting from oddly pleasurable to curling my toes, biting my lip trying not to cry kind of burn that lasted an additional 45 seconds. Never again. It was as if the rose water reactivated the whole process, but in a big way. Still no reaction or redness, just discomfort. Be careful. No water after use and you'll be fine. I hope this review is helpful and does not deter anyone from trying this product because it is so so amazing. I think everyone could benefit from using it. It just takes a little getting used to. I will forever keep a bottle for regular use. Thank Ordinary for an amazing quality and amazing prices.
Size for price is incredible
I like this glycolic toner. It's nice. It does what a glycolic solution should do. I'm pretty sure this bottle will last me a year or longer because I rotate my acid toners and rarely use the same one twice in a row. Not to mention it is a huge bottle and you don't need much! My skin takes very well to aha's and this is no exception. I will say it leaves a very slight tacky feeling on my skin after it dries, but I'm willing to look past that for the amazing value and skin clearing benefits.
5 stars for quality and versatility
This is my first Chikuhodo brush and I'm very happy with it. It's a somewhat fluffy natural haired paddle style brush that when looking at, you'd think it would be best used for laying down shadows all over the lid. It can and does work well for that, but I have found my favorite use for it to be creating a sharp angle at the outer corner of my eyes with darker matte shadows and for carving a precise crease that I want to keep lower than what my typical goat haired blending brushes allow for. It's amazing for people like me with almond shaped eyes or hooded eyes because you have so much control over where you place eyeshadow and how it blends the edges just enough but not too much. It can diffuse color over a wider space, but it would take more effort and time than just using a fluffier blending brush, so I stick to larger brushes for that purpose. I don't use intensely shimmery or foiled eyeshadows with it because the hair is so incredibly soft that it can tend to eat up those kinds of thicker eyeshadows and makes application a bit more tedious. For mattes though, it's amazing. I want to try more from the GSN line. I think the GSN-10 will be my next one. Love.
Had it. Lost it. Need to replace it. Beautylish has said "returning SOON" for over a year!! Will this ever happen?
I love this pigment!!! I need a new one! And I've been checking the site for months and months and months and the status is always, "returning SOON!" I am confused why this is the case when I don't find a year and two months to be considered soon. Beautylish, perhaps say, "unsure when returning." That would help to not get our hopes up! Otherwise, I love Beautylish.
Most beautiful bronzer in texture and tone.
I adore Jouer powder products and this bronzer is truly amazing. I bought Suntan, which on my medium olive complexion is beautiful. It can look very natural if you go light, but it can also be built up with hardly any work. The powder is so smooth it's almost creamy. The pan size is smaller than an average bronzer, but a little goes a long way and it will last a good amount of time. You don't have to dig your brush in to pick it up. Just a couple taps in the product and you're good. If you have a hard time finding a great bronzer that looks natural, doesn't go on choppy and is a dream to blend, this will not let you down. I've only tried the one shade, but I imagine every shade is equally as gorgeous.
