Gwen D, the thin scratchy brush is super amazing. You don't glide it in the lash line, you press into the lash line with your eye closed. The stiffness of the brush is what give you that super defined black liner look, yet it's so thin after applying you can't tell if it's natural or make up. I think Wayne specifically made it "stiff/scratchy" so that this particular placement of eyeshadow comes out as thin, pigmented and clean as it does.
