Beauty Product Reviews
Small and precise
The 07 brush is the smallest one in Wayne Goss’s new “The Collection.” It’s considerably smaller than brush 06, and together, they make precision application so much easier! I love this brush especially for applying a very thin line of a dark shadow against my upper and lower lash lines as a more flattering alternative to eyeliner on my mature, very hooded eyes.
The perfect detail brush
Brush #6 may just be my favorite from Wayne Goss’s new “The Collection.” Even though I have an extensive array of makeup brushes, I have never before owned one that is really great for doing precision work. I love using the side of this small but mighty beauty for sweeping eyeshadow across my the lid and the tip for doing crease work on my extremely hooded, small-lidded eyes. It’s also perfect for getting into hard-to-reach areas, like the inside corners of the eyes or around the nostrils, and for putting a narrow, precise highlight just above my Cupid’s bow or under my brows.
Awesome for concealer
Brush #5 from Wayne Goss’s new “The Collection” is wonderful for applying concealer under the eye, and the pointed tip is great for precise spot-concealing. It’s similar to Wayne’s #16 brush, but it’s a bit denser and works equally well with liquid, powder and cream formulas. It’s lovely for applying eyeshadow over the entire lid, and the pointed tip fits nicely into the crease.
Such a versatile size and shape!
I own more than half of Wayne Goss’s wonderful brushes, so when he came out with his latest, The Collection, I had a hard time justifying adding more brushes to my own more than ample stash. But after watching and listening to him explain his motivation and goals for developing an entirely new brush collection and demo how each brush could be used, I realized that most of them would make a big difference in the ease of application and appearance of my makeup.
All the brushes in this new collection are the softest and most precisely shaped I have ever owned. The #4 brush is perfect for setting under-eye concealer, lightly powdering the T-zone, and subtly blending shadows on my hooded eyes.
Unique ... and amazing!
Confession: I'm a high-end makeup brush junkie. My collection has grown to an embarrassing size. It includes most of the Wayne Goss brushes that have been released to date. I resolved not to buy any more, but when I saw Wayne's video previewing this year's holiday brush, I had to cave! My justification (to myself) was that it's unlike any other brush I own or have ever seen, and that it's extremely versatile.
First, it's HUGE! And, unlike most fan brushes, it's dense rather than wispy. The edge is perfect for highlighting or contouring, while the side of the brush is perfect for applying foundation, blush, bronzer or powder. And it blends like a dream!
All of Wayne's brushes are luxuriously soft, but this one takes softness and silkiness to a whole new level.
I'm thrilled that I made an exception to my resolution and jumped on the opportunity to get the Wayne Goss Holiday Brush 2019!
His best brush yet!
I own Wayne’s face brush set (and nearly all of his eye brushes), as well as several of his older individual face (and eye) brushes, so I almost didn’t buy this holiday brush 2018. After all, what could it do that the rest of his face brushes couldn’t? In one sense, the answer is, nothing. I’ve never felt that there was any makeup application that I couldn’t do well with his previous brushes. In other words, if you have most of Wayne’s other face brushes, you don’t actually NEED this brush. But you definitely will want it!
It’s significantly larger than most of his other face brushes, so you can cover large areas of the face quickly and efficiently. Although the brush head is large, it’s soft and not too dense, so it applies liquids, creams and powders sheerly and evenly. Liquid foundation should be applied with a stippling/patting motion, while powders glide over the skin in a sweeping motion. The broad edge tapers to a fairly thin edge, which is great for precisely yet softly applying highlighter or contouring products. The flat sides of the brush are perfect for a sheer C-shaped swoop of blush or for applying bronzer. And it’s incredibly soft and luxurious.
I’m so glad that I ultimately decided to go for it!
Sheer, slightly tanned glow
Like others here, I purchased this after seeing Wayne Goss's glowing YouTube review. I love the healthy, natural-looking color it gives my light skin, like a very light tan. It's a bit too "glowy" for me. Although I have excellent skin, there are a couple of areas where my pores have gotten larger as I've aged, and I feel like the Healthy Glow accentuates them. I also find that I need to dust on transparent loose powder to remove the unwanted shine. That said, I really like this product, once I've lightly dusted it with the transparent powder.
A worthwhile splurge
I discovered Wayne Goss brushes last year, and purchased several of his eye brushes. Initially, I bought them just one or two at a time. I have a talent for applying makeup (subtly) and have accumulated a lot of knowledge from pro makeup artists over the decades, so I was skeptical that they could make much difference in my makeup application vs. the Trish McEvoy brushes I had used for years. But with each new Wayne Goss eye brush I bought, my technique improved noticeably. When the new version of The Face Set originally came out, I couldn't justify the cost. And when it came back in stock, I was happy to see that the brushes were also sold individually. But as I tried to narrow down just the brushes I really needed and would use, I realized that would use and love every one of them. So, in a moment of weakness, I broke down and purchased the set.
I'm so glad I did! I don't have the original The Face Set, but my Wayne Goss eye brushes have the older, brown bristles (which are plenty soft!), so I can compare them to those. The white bristles are even softer! And the brush heads are so different from any of my previous face brushes. While several are multipurpose, each does have a particular application for which it is the ideal choice.
The only downside I've found is that just spraying the bristles with brush cleaner spray and wiping them on a microfiber towel doesn't remove every last trace of color. But I'm okay with that. It sanitizes them and removes most of the color residue, and I'm confident that the slight amount of color that remains will wash out completely and easily with my grapefruit brush cleanser from Beautylish (awesome stuff!). And I don't plan to wash them more often than necessary to preserve the bristles.
