Proactiv
Renewing Cleanser
Reviews
Proactiv is like nothing else. I'd never had acne problems, but once and a while I would break out and get horrible pimples scattered around my face. All I had to do was use the Proactiv 3 Step System™ the cleanser, toner, and lotion. The next day my face was clear and there was no sign of a breakout the next morning. I have very sensitive skin and it didn't give me any reaction, the toner however stung a little the first time I used it, but that's totally normal. I highly recommend Proactiv to anyone who wants smooth and blemish-free skin.
Definitely Do Your Research First.
Worse Than Before I begged to get this as a Christmas gift last year, turns out I ended with worse skin than I had before. I though I was going to gain a whole load of confidence using this product, instead it made my skin a lot worse and dried it out and caused my skin to be inflamed even after I stopped using it, more than likely from the Benzoyl Peroxide. Furthermore, when I initially received it, there was a lot of hype at my high school with other people who had problem skin and they ended up jumping the bandwagon and purchasing this product with their own money. Those others also had a bad experience with ProActiv, which make me really remorseful because If I had started using it they probably wouldn't have either. I remained on course will all instructions for 6 months to no avail and I sincerely regret using this product. This product is practically, trying to bleach your skin and all the advertising says that it works for all different types of problem skin when it simply does not.
If you have not only acne prone skin but sensitive skin as well, I'd recommend staying away from products such as this that contain witch-hazel or alcohol as is strips the skin of moisture.
If you're still interesting in purchasing this product, I received a reply from a Proactiv Representative which entails the following: We estimate that over 85% of people with mild to moderate skin problems see an improvement by using Proactiv over 6-8 weeks – so we’re disappointed to hear that this wasn’t your experience. You’re right - some people do find that Proactiv can cause some redness and drying – in this situation we usually recommend that people reduce how often they use Proactiv from twice a day down to once a day, or even to every second day. Using a non comedogenic moisturiser can also help - and we always recommend that people carry out a patch test (as described in the Proactiv kit) before using the 3 Step System to make sure that it’s suitable for their skin. Other Proactiv products that contain Salicylic Acid rather than Benzoyl Peroxide may be better for people with more sensitive skin, such as Proactiv’s Deep Cleansing Wash, for instance. Failing you may want to seek the help of a health professional.
If you don't plan on using this for a long time and want quick results, I say go for it. Otherwise this product is a waste of money. It works really fast, which is a pro, but the con is that your skin will turn out even worse after it clears up. This is exactly what happened to me and that is why I stopped using it. Never going back to this product again.
Helpful...for a while
I use this every now and again, lets say every 6 months because it is very drying. And when I use it, I only use it once a day. I really love the step system. If you use all of them together there is no way that you're going to have bad results. Good alternatives: St. Ives Apricot scrub and Neutrogena, mask/ wash. that stuff is great!
Quick results but no longevity
I finally gave in after watching all of the late night infomercials on tv and purchased the Proactiv cleanser, toner, moisturizer and mask in an effort to rid my skin of my horrid spots. I found that it did what it promised in the beginning. My face cleared up and my skin looked great. Alas, this was too good to be true because a month later, my skin got worse that it was before I started using this product! I had horrible break outs and my skin was dry, dehydrated and dull looking. I've switched to an all natural product now called Sibu, and my skin looks great! Say no to chemicals on your face!
id have to say ... its not bad give it a go
so once i turned 25 my skin started to break out alot and ive useed other things thinking it would help but i kept breaking out and was tired of it i decided to buy proactive and it didnt work for the first id say month after that it started to work but so did the payments of 30 something dollars a month i guess its worth it in the long run i love the texture gets my skin clean i use the 3 step system not the rest of the junk lotions and what not . id say give it a go never know what will work for you . i am almost out of mine and think i will try something less expensive .
Works but not for long
I had been battling acne for 2 years and I decided to go back to Proactiv for a second shot, given that the first time I tried it, I did not have acne, just a pimple or two. The first few days after my second try, my skin cleared right up. I didn't use the toner nor the moisturizer, just the cleanser itself. I was siced but then after a month of consistent usage, my skin went back to its acne-prone self. So I'd say this product is alright if you have some acne but not for those with really stubborn acne.
