20 Ways to Use Lucas' Papaw Ointment
Consider this stuff the duct tape of beauty products! Lucas’ Papaw is beloved by professional makeup artists, and is essentially Australia’s answer to Vaseline. It’s made with fermented papaw fruit and pharmaceutical-grade petroleum, which is a milder and non-comedogenic form of petroleum. Whether you prefer the classic version or this more-natural take, petroleum-based balm is considered safe by most dermatologists.
A hydrating moisturizer is just one of the many uses that made our top-20 list of hidden beauty talents of all-purpose skin balm.

Neosporin + Vaseline All in One
I always see customers purchasing the Lucas' Papaw Remedies Lucas’ Papaw Ointment and raving about how good it is, so one day I finally gave in and decided to try it. Let's just say I finally understand what all the hype is about this product! The formula is luxuriously moisturizing, but without being greasy or heavy. Unlike Vaseline that sits on top of your skin, this product melts into your skin, lips, wherever you're putting it. There's a slight vanilla-y scent, but it's not overpowering and definitely doesn't bother me. I like to use this as a lip balm, on top of my mosquito bites (which unfortunately happens pretty often as I am a mosquito magnet), as a brow gel when I'm in a pinch, etc. My favorite way to use this product is definitely on my ear piercings, which are sensitive and prone to infections. Just a little dab on each ear and my ears are as good as new the next day!
NEVER HAVE CHAPPED LIPS EVER AGAIN WITH THE NEVER ENDING JAR!
First of all, this jar last forever. My first jar lasted me YEARS. And no, it did not smell funky or seemed to go bad so I continued to use it. I mostly use Papaw for my lips but have used it on my hands or dry patches when I need it. I bought the 75g jar prior to re-purchasing the 200g jar and I seemed to go through it super quick, so although pricey, the 200g jar is the way to go if you want to have it on hand for years. I keep the jar at home and I also buy the tubes to keep in my purse. I have thought about trying Lanolips but I also can't bear the idea of straying from my beloved red tubed ointment. Maybe it's just glorified vasoline. Maybe it's all in my head! But I have been repurchasing in some way, shape or form for 7 years so you know it's a staple in my everyday essentials.
Miracle in a jar
I bought this based on other reviews. I not only suffer from eczema, but also live in a dry climate (Colorado). I’ve been using this the past few days and have been amazed by how healing it is. My hands are no longer severely dry or cracked. I wasn’t crazy about using an ointment, but found that if I use it about 15 minutes or so before bedtime my skin has already absorbed it. I don’t think I can live without this product. It’s truly a miracle in a jar!
Hydrating, Thin texture
I've kept this in my purse ever since I purchased it and I really like how the product thins out upon contact with the skin. As a balm, it functions similarly to Aquaphor or Vaseline, but the texture has a lot more slip. If you have severely chapped lips, this might not be the heavy duty thing you're looking for, but I find that it hydrates my lips really well and has a really pleasant, almost cinnamon-y smell. Would repurchase.
I prefer this to all my other lip balms.
I have all kinds of lip balms and those pure Shea butter products to use on my lips but this is heaven! I can apply it on my lips, dry spots, wind burns on my elbows, cheeks and jawline over or under makeup because it’s clear like Vaseline color. Bought the 25g duo last year and still have not went through one of the two despite using it exclusively since Fall of 2018. The product has a pretty good shelf life. The duo I bought last year expires in April 2021. By that time I would surely have used both.
Amazing
So I bought this because I read good things and I was having some nasty mosquito bites that I wanted to test this on. It worked really well in stopping the itch and keeping it from getting bigger. My mosquito bites can really swell up. BUT that’s not why I’m giving it the 5 starts. A few months ago my allergies started acting up BADLY. I was constantly blowing my nose and my nose became dry and flaky. Last week I got a bad cold. It got so bad that the inside of my nose was cracked and bleeding. I really was in pain. I remembered that this was supposed to help with open wounds and within two nights of using it my nose was completely healed from the inside!! I was honestly amazed. I had been using oil to help with the dryness and this blew that out of the water. I noticed after the first night my skin was smoother and wasn’t painful to the touch anymore. After the second night the tiny wound had closed up and the dry rough spots had smoothed out. Now I just have the dark spots that the constant blowing left behind, but hopefully my skin care routine gets rid of those soon.
good product, bus nothing special
I have actually no idea why this product is always so hysterically hyped in magazines or blogs... It's a good treatment, no question, but there is better in my opinion. I would like to have a bit of a taste, a little something that makes it "yummy"! But this is maybe what many people like - there is no scent and no taste. If you like that, it's your choice!
My go-to
I started using this on a volunteer trip in Australia in the woods, and I haven't stopped since. It is like Aquaphor but better/more natural. I love it as a lip balm, on cuticles, on scrapes, etc. I don't use it on bug bites as much as I use it as a skin protectant; it won't relieve itch, but it does protect and nourish the skin. I would even use it as a first aid balm over leach bites before bandaids (yes, leeches. Gross, I know. I had the strongest stomach of the group so that duty fell on me).
I am all about multi-tasking products (in an effort to pair down) and this does the job. Plus the bright red tube is easy to locate in your purse... big bonus!
