Not too shabby
I recently stumbled upon Prestige's Soft Blend Kohl Eyeliner. And it was on sale at Ulta for around $3.50 so I decided to give this a go since my ELF eyeliners had been giving me a hard time. It's not the absolute best eyeliner I've used but it's not terrible either. It does apply onto the eyes quite smoothly and it isn't rough like some eyeliners can be. It can be a little frail just because it is a soft blend but I guess you can't have your cake and eat it. Overall, it's not a bad eyeliner. It does smudge a little but it's not absolutely terrible. I give this product an average rating because that's basically what it is, average.
Never again.
I think this is going to be the most negative I write about a product but I have good reason for doing so. Unfortunately, I did not research my liquid liners before I purchased Maybelline's Ultra Liner. I regret this purchase and I tossed this product out after a few uses even though it cost me $8. I had given it a few chances and it really failed me and made me so irritated that a product could be so terrible. The brush is a miserable thing. It is so flimsy and it does not apply the liner well at all. It literally did NOTHING for me expect put a bunch of glob on my face. I would sit in front of the mirror for a long while to reapply and apply the liner just to get the color and look I wanted and it took forever! Being an eyeliner and liquid liner veteran, I'm used to being able to line my eyes pretty quickly but this product slowed me down and made me so frustrated. And the product dries horribly. Once it dried, it began to flake and if you just lightly brush your finger against the liner, it'd being to flake off. Just opening and closing my eyes would cause the liner to flake and I'd end up with flesh peering out from the liner. This is a terrible product. I have no idea why there aren't any more negative reviews about it. Maybe I just got unlucky. But because of this experience, I will NEVER purchase this product and I do not recommend this to anyone.
Mehhhh
I used to use Prestige's liquid eyeliner religiously. But may I add that this was before I was introduced to the world of makeup and wonder, not just the drug store. You can definitely find some quality liquid liners at the drugstore for a fraction of what a higher end liquid liner will cost. However, Prestige may not be that liquid liner form the drug store you're looking for. The applicator is very easy to use and after a few swipes of practice, you'll be a pro at using it in no time. The reason why I'm so mehhh about this product is that the liquid liner is not opaque and I really like my black to be black. Even if I layer on coats of the liquid liner on my eyes, I don't get the color I want so I end up having to set the liner and darken it up with matte black eye shadow. And it smears oh so much. Unless you have primer on and you make sure to check yourself out in the mirror ever so often to make sure your makeup isn't smeared, you will look like a raccoon after only a few hours. I suppose this is a decent liquid liner but it's definitely not the worst nor the best.
On the fence, again.
I recently purchased Sally Hansen's Insta-Dri in the color Jade Jump. Jade Jump is very similar to the Tiffany & Co's mint turquoise color. I know I'm late on getting this color and that Chanel has a great Tiffany & Co nail polish! Whoops. Well I purchased this from Target since it was on sale and didn't think too much on it. I did NOT expect the brush to be so flat and be so hard to figure out to apply on my nails. I literally, say there dipping the brush in and out of the bottle trying to get the right amount to use but I'd always end up with too much or too little. I had very little control over the applicator. It's so strangely shaped with it being so flat and rectangular right smack in the middle. I am not a fan of the applicator. The color is pretty and it was pretty opaque considering that the color I got is a light color. I only had to apply two coats and the second coat was just for good measure. The nail polish did indeed dry fast and it lasted all day while I was at work without chipping and I basically abuse my hands at work. So not bad. I'm still on the fence about this product. I love the color and that it dries fast but the applicator and how little control I have really irked me.
Adorable little ball
I purchased this while I was visiting Ulta and luckily, thanks to my $3.50 off a $10 purchase coupon, I basically got the EOS lip balm for free so this was a pretty sweet deal. The packaging is awesome. I feel so cool and hip whipping this baby out to put on my lips. It goes on smooth and stays on smooth so the formula is alright. And I do feel like it does a really good job of moisturizing my lips better than my other lip balms. BUT, I'm not going to say I'm 100% in love with this lip balm because the smell. I was expecting the smell to be amazing. I picked up the lip balm up in summer fruit which is the pretty reddish/coral looking ball. I was not pleased with the scent. Sure it smells fruity but there's this strange, almost plastic or crayon smell that is overbearing. And plastic/crayon smell is NOT attractive. I really do believe that EOS lip balm are all the rage nowadays because of the hype they get on YouTube (heck, YouTube reviews were the reason why I even considered buying the EOS lop balm) and because of the packaging. But because I only spent around $7 on my purchase at Ulta that basically gave me the EOS lip balm for free, I'm not upset about it at all. At least it gave me a chance to try it out.
OK Cupid!
I love OPI! I never have to apply more than one coat for any of their colors and it dries beautifully. Sometimes I wonder why I even put on a top coat and then I see my nails later in the day after much abuse and remember why I do. I have had a few OPI polishes in my life time but my favorite is OK Cupid. It's a bright red that really stands out and the staying power is great! It's perfect for Valentine's Day, hence the name. OPI is definitely a brand you should check out if you want a quality nail polish that'll last. The only downside about OPI nail polishes is that if you remove the nail polish, you can see that the polish really has damaged your natural nails. I'm not sure why but seeing slightly discolored natural nails from a nail polish is concerning. So remember to give your natural nails a break to breathe!
Honey + Toffee = Love
I LOVE Lush's Honey I Washed the Kids soap. It smells amazing. AMAZING, I tell you. I would leave it in my bathroom and whenever I stepped in, I would inhale the amazing scent of toffee and honey mixed in together and it was heavenly. Heck, if Lush made a little smelly thing that smelled like Honey I Washed the Kids, I'd buy it in a heartbeat and then place them all over my home, car, etc. The soap lathers well and you feel all sweet and tingly from the scent since it is THAT good. However, the smell from the soap doesn't last long. I would love to smell like honey and toffee all day but with this soap, it isn't possible. And if you leave it in the shower area, the soap tends to decrease in size dramatically especially if it's near water. The first bar of Honey I Washed the Kids disappeared so fast not only from my use but from my novice mistake of leaving it in the shower caddy that hangs under the shower head. I will not be making that mistake again.
As for the moisturizing effect, I wouldn't say that it's superior to any other soap I've used. I wish I could say it's the best of the best but in this category, it's not. But the smell of the soap is the reason why I buy Honey I Washed the Kids. But Lush really needs to find a way to make the smell last on my skin and everyone else's. I recommend this soap to ANYONE who has a weakness for anything that smells sweet and amazing.
Flip Flop, Flip Flop
My roommate decided to bribe me to do a few more chores than I was supposed to do by giving me a China Glaze nail polish in Flip Flop Fantasy. It's this gorgeous orange, hot pink neon color that really stands out and against my tan skin, it looks so nice! I ran out of a top coat the first time I used Flip Flop Fantasy but I really wanted to try it out, and even without a top coat, the nail polish stayed on pretty well with only minor chipping. My only complaint about China Glaze would be that I had to do multiple coats of Flip Flop Fantasy before I got the color I wanted. I was surprised that the formula was a watered down as it was. But this could just be because of the specific color I got. Other than that, I will continue to gladly accept China Glaze nail polishes as bribes from my roommate. :)
Perfect & Affordable
I have been using Loreal's True Match foundation for years-years meaning all throughout high school and into college. This is a great drugstore foundation that is very affordable (around $6-8, depending on sales and where you get it) and gives you great coverage. In high school, when my hormones decided to pop out and surprise me, this foundation saved me from having lots of blemishes and acne on my skin. It was my life saver. It blends in very easily and the bottle, although small, can last for a long time. It doesn't break me out and it makes me feel like I'm not wearing makeup since it is so light. I recommend using a flat foundation brush though just because the application of the foundation won't end up super messy on your hands. Applying any kind of liquid foundation can get messy without a brush. This foundation matches the performance of my MAC foundation but only costs a fraction of what I would pay for MAC. I definitely recommend this to anyone and everyone!
Shimmy Shimmy
I would choose a MAC pigment over an eyeshadow any day, any week, and any life time. These pigments are definitely one of the few things I can't live without. My very first pigment from MAC is Shimmer-Time and it's a really pretty peachy, white color. It works great as a highlight color, for the inner corners or for the eyelid if you're really going for a subtle natural look. There is just so much product in the canister as well! It is definitely worth the money especially if you are very avid in using and perhaps, even just collecting makeup. And using it with water really makes the color pop-it really is an amazing, versatile product that I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE!
As for using the pigment, it can get messy. What I usually do is I take off the little clear covering that covers the pigment and use my brush to pick up the pigment off of it instead of dipping my brush straight into the pigment. That way I have more control over how much product I use and it doesn't waste anything.
