Beauty Product Reviews
makes a difference
I had been looking to make a change in my skin routine, and had good luck with other May Lindstrom products. I'd been feeling as though things just weren't right, somehow...my skin was clear, looked okay, but I just felt as though it wasn't feeling particularly good, for some reason. I upped my water intake, I opted for a richer moisturizer: still seemed fine, but just looked kind of 'meh.' I decided to take the plunge and try a sample of The Youth Dew, just to see what might happen. After a week, I had what I was looking for: my skin loves this product. That certain something was back. I'm not going to tell you this will change your life, and I'm not going to tell you it's a miracle worker. What I will tell you is that it gave my skin the sort of boost? oomph? nudge? that put things back to rights, and now I am much happier with the texture, color and overall glow that I've gotten from one pump in the morning and two at night. As always, your mileage may vary, but I liked the sample enough to spring for a whole bottle, and now I'm on my second. I'll be a customer for as long as she makes this product, it's that good.
stays put, huge color payoff
Another wonderful Kevyn Aucoin product. I have problems with creme blush staying put, but not with this. Looks great, provides a solid 9 hours of wear over foundation (slightly less over bare, moisturized skin). Outstanding for women over 40 who need something that's not going to settle in fine lines or look odd/too pale over full-coverage foundations. Worth every penny.
ultra-precise
At last, a brush that is stiff and thin enough to apply a very precise line, but pliant enough that it's not uncomfortable to use. Can't believe I waited this long to get one, while being unaccountably annoyed with other, more expensive brushes for...well, apparently, for not being this one. Great value for the money -- I find myself reaching for this brush every time I use eye makeup. How good is it? I didn't even know that I needed it until it arrived...and now, I call it indispensible.
absorbs quickly, works as-advertised
Let's face it...no topical treatment can really get rid of smile lines and so forth once you get to a certain age. That's actually fine by me -- I like seeing my face as a map of where I've been. That being said, I like this balm a lot, as it really seems to condition and improve the skin around my eyes and seems very soothing to winter-angry skin. I'm curious to see how I'll feel about it come summer. I have hyper-sensitive eyes and this didn't burn or sting or anything. Other reviewers are right on the money concerning the amount needed: truly, I'm using this twice a day while it's cold and dry here, and I have barely made a dent in this product. Soothing, pleasant, feels good, doesn't irritate eyes -- what's not to love? For me, this is a go-to "calm-down" for stressed skin, and I'm very, very happy I gave it a try.
big color payoff, buildable, pretty
I've been using this over the weekend and like it a lot. It's a very nice color -- deeper than Lipstick Queen's Medieval, not as deep as Serge Lutens's Chardon. The product feels nice on the lips and lasts about as long as you might expect: not through a meal, but through a couple/three hours of talking and going about your day. I like it because the packaging is pretty and heavy and substantial, and that sort of thing matters to me. If you aren't a packaging & novelty nerd, this really might not be for you. But if you like things that feel luxe, and look unusual, and work as-advertised, then you really can't go wrong with this. I wouldn't say it's a holy grail as far as the balm itself goes...it feels better than most, but it's not life-changing...but in terms of color + conditioning + organic ingredients, I don't know that any other product offers all three in such equally good measure.
