You paint a base color let it dry completely, then pick two or three colors and get a toothbrush. Put the nail polish on the brush bristles (make sure you do quite a bit of polish or it won't transfer) and tap it onto your nail. I cleaned the toothbrush with acetone between colors. Also I got this idea from The Nailasaurus she has good tutorial on her blog for it.
