it's a little complicated lol. i used a black creme polish at the very tip and made it opaque. just before that dried, i used a dark opaque purple on the bottom half of the nail, covering the black, and let that dry for a time. while the dark purple is still tacky, i applied a coat of a sheer glittery purple over everything and wiggled the brush a bit to blur the line between the dark purple and the lighter, sheerer one. then i applied one last coat of the sheer purple to blend everything. i then applied a glitter top coat just to add more sparkle!
