A Miss For Me (But I'll Try Again)
I bought this one day at Target while I was wandering their makeup aisles. The packaging caught my eye since it was new, so I decided to pick it up. I got color 025 Peach Parfait. I wanted something nude-ish without being a true nude, if that makes any sense. Peachy colors usually look good on me and aren't too showy so this seems like a good choice. When I got home, I was kinda confused on the purpose of this product. To me, it seems like a gloss in a lipstick packaging. It went on so sheer that I couldn't see any pigmentation at all other than the gold glitter that is in it. I really don't like glitter or shimmer of any sort on my lips so i was pretty bummed out about that. I can still use it if I throw on a gloss on top that tones down that shimmer, but then it's kind of pointless to even wear in the first place. I'm gonna check out swatches of other colors and see if there's something else from this line that could work for me because other than the particular color I bought, I like the product. It's not super drying, unless you wear it all day, and does seem to last for a while considering that it isn't a true lipstick or lip stain. If I get another color I'll definitely consider changing my review but for now I can't give this anything better than just average.
Pros: Inexpensive Wide range of colors Convenient packaging (you can just throw it in your pocket) Staying power
Cons: Some colors might not work on your skin tone Can be drying throughout the day
Super Cool!
This is something I had on my Sephora shopping list for ages. One day I saw it in the store and bought it rather impulsively. Normally I would never spend this much on nail polish but I'm glad I did. I have the gray/silver color Trafalgar Square. On its own, it's a lovely metallic dark gray that goes on pretty opaquely. Once you do the magnetic effect (which is ridiculously easy!), your nails are transformed with the 3D effect. The first few times I used it I had trouble with touching my nail and smearing it all. That was pretty frustrating just because it is so expensive and I didn't want to waste any of it. But now I have the hang of it and I have no problems. This polish dries so quickly, which I love, because I usually do my nails before bed and hate waking up with sheet marks. You definitely need a top coat with this. The first time I used it, I skipped a top coat and by the end of the day it had already started chipping on some fingers. I'm not too hard on my nails so I was kinda disappointed in that. It was easy enough to fix the chips but it was apparent where I had done it if you got up close. Speaking of getting up close, I got so many compliments on my nails! I work retail and all day I had people (coworkers and customers) grabbing my hands and asking about my nails. It looks like you either spent a ton of time or a ton of money at a salon with this effect.
Pros: Unique effect Opaque color Dries quickly Quality polish (goes on evenly and smoothly) Easy to use
Cons: Expensive Chips easily Limited color selection Learning curve for technique
Favorite Drugstore Mascara
I really love this mascara. I have the regular formula in Carbon Black and I find it to be great all around: it gives me volume without being overly clumpy and lengthens quite nicely. I can't speak to its curling abilities because I always curl my lashes before applying any mascara, but I can say that it doesn't cause my curl to fall. There are two things that keep this from being 5 stars for me. When I first got it I didn't care for it because the formula was rather wet and it smeared. After about 3 weeks it got to a consistency that I loved. Now that I've had it for a couple months I can tell it's starting to dry out and it flakes a bit on me throughout the day. Since it was so inexpensive I don't mind having to toss it and start the process over of waiting for the formula to reach that perfect consistency; I just wish I didn't have to. Also, the tip tends to have a ton of excess product at the end that I have to wipe off. That seems to be the case for nearly every mascara ever, but the "Clean Sweep Wiping System" is supposed to take care of that. Again, not a huge deal, but enough to keep this from being 5 stars.
Pros: Gives good, non-clumpy volume Lengthens nicely Can be layered easily with itself or other mascaras Dark formula
Cons: Consistency is not great (goes from too wet to dried out rather quickly) Product buildup on the end of the wand
Very Versatile!
I got this product a few months back (as a birthday pressie from my best friend <3) and it's definitely one I reach for on a regular basis. I have a habit of doing my makeup at school so that I can get a few more minutes of sleep in every morning, and this is something super easy to grab that I can do a variety of looks with. Usually I end up doing Half Baked all over my lid and Toasted in my crease; it is such an easy look but I get complimented on it fairly regularly. I'm also able to use either of the two matte shades (Naked and Buck) to fill in my brows, either mixed together or solo, depending on my mood. I use Virgin and Sin as highlighters for my inner corner, under my brow, and even on my cheeks. The only color I don't get a ton of use out of is Sidecar because I have crazy fallout issues with it. On occasions that I have time to do my makeup properly I can use it but otherwise I really don't bother. I'm considering popping that pan out and giving it to a friend who loves Sidecar and uses it often.
Pros: The colors all go well together Payoff is great (with a primer for me, because I have oily lids) Easy to grab-and-go Versatility of uses (shadows can be used all over, as liners, or as highlighters)
Cons: Only two matte shades that are pretty similar Sidecar has fallout issues
