Very Mindful, Very Demure Makeup

Chances are, you’ve encountered the word ‘demure’ more in the past few weeks than ever before, and we have creator Jools Lebron to thank. Not only has she broadened our vocabulary, but she’s also ushering in a fresh aesthetic shift. After a chaotic Brat summer, we’re eagerly anticipating a more refined, Demure fall.

What exactly is “demure”?

Demure is all about subtlety and restraint. It’s about being mindful in how we show up and present ourselves. While it may carry a hint of tongue-in-cheek humor and sarcasm, when it comes to beauty, we’re taking it as a classic soft glam that’s both feminine and flirty—without going overboard.

A very demure makeup routine

Soft, glow canvas

We’ll start with a natural-looking, lightweight foundation with medium-to-full coverage, like Chantecaille Future Skin. Then, add soft dimension and a healthy-looking glow with Charlotte Tilbury Filmstar Bronze & Glow or Natasha Denona Bronze Cheek Face Glow. Finally, a flush of color with Hourglass Unreal Liquid Blush. Very cutesy, very mindful.

Effortlessly feminine eyes

“We don’t come to work with a green cut crease.” Instead, we paint our lids with shimmering, sparkling eye shadows—like Charlotte Tilbury Eyes to Mesmerize and Charlotte Tilbury Luxury Palette of Pops in Pillow Talk—to illuminate our eyes.

Next, define eyes with a soft, diffuse eye liner, like MOB Beauty Cake Liner and Charlotte Tilbury Rock ‘N’ Kohl, and finish with Anastasia Beverly Hills Lash Brag Volumizing Mascara for long, defined lashes.

Glossy, soft lips

We don’t do much—just a lippie that hydrates, volumizes, and adds a tint of color.
