Micellar water isn’t new to the skincare scene, but TikTok has us wondering if we’ve been using it wrong all this time. Micellar water—known for gently removing impurities without throwing your skin off balance—is especially popular as a first step in double cleansing or gentle makeup remover. Traditionally, we saturate a cotton pad with micellar water and sweep it over our faces to cleanse—or so we thought.
Try the micellar water bubble hack
While the new hack doesn’t change when or why micellar water is used, it does give us a new way to apply it. To give it a try yourself, all you need is micellar water and a cotton pad. Start by pouring a generous amount of micellar water on a cotton pad. Then, place the other side on your mouth and gently blow on it until you see foam emerging.
Beautylish recommends:
While the foam may be fun to create, is it actually more effective?
Short answer: no, either way works! While the foam makes application more fun, it doesn’t change or activate the formula in any way. I tested it out with consistent use in case of any irritation, but didn’t notice any effect on my skin.
The only thing to note if you choose to continue using the foam method is that you could be transferring bacteria from your mouth onto your skin. However, if you’re rinsing the foam off or using it as a first step of a double cleanse, it may not matter.
How to correctly use micellar water
The ideal method of use just depends on your personal preference. Some skin types may find foam to be more effective in cleansing their skin, but it works either way. Effective solution or foam, you’re guaranteed to cleanse skin without drying or stripping it.
