Now Trending: Festive Holiday Looks for (Virtual) Parties
Published Dec 18, 2020
Can you believe the ho-ho-holidays are just around the corner? While celebrations may look a little different this year, there’s no reason not to look and feel festive! Holidays are the best time to break out of the daily makeup routine and truly get creative. Good news: festive makeup translates just as well on camera as IRL. Even if you’re still wearing sweats underneath (we won’t tell!), get in the celebratory holiday spirit with these fun and festive makeup looks. Just don’t forget to have good lighting before (virtually) entering the room.
Sparkly wings
An unexpected yet festive take on eye shadow: exaggerated glitter wings. Use tape to create a sharp edge that extends a little further than your lid (similar to winged liner). Go as thin or thick as you’d like, and once you have your outline, just apply your sparkly eye shadow with a brush. After removing the tape, use makeup remover with a small brush to clean up your edge, if needed.

Wine lips
Do your ultimate holiday plans involve cozying up with a glass of red wine in front of the fireplace? Then, why not look the part? Whether you go for a classic red or a deeper wine shade, you can’t go wrong with a bold lip that translates on and off the screen. Bonus: the bolder the lip, the more minimal the rest of your look can be. Cheers!

Subtle pop of color
If making a simple statement is more you, a subtle pop of color is the way to go. Apply your eye-catching shade of choice just to the inner corner of your eye. Next, smudge it a bit with your finger for a perfectly imperfect look. If you want, you can repeat on the outer corners of your eyes, too.

Glittery cat eye
Is it even the holidays without a little sparkle? Let’s take your typical winged eye look to the next level with some shimmer. The good news about glitter is you can go as subtle or bold as you want. For an unexpected shimmering cat eye, start with a neutral matte eye shadow from your lids to your crease as the base. Next, create your wing with a black liquid liner for a bolder look or a brown or grey shadow for softer wings. Finally, finish by applying either a glittery eye shadow or actual glitter pieces above the wings, following their shape.

Icy, frosted lids
Match your favorite glass ornament with this simple yet unique take on shadow. Coat your eyes with your preferred eye shadow shade—I recommend a baby blue for an icy, let-it-snow vibe. Then, apply a clear glaze just on the center of your eyelid. A simple and subtle way to get in the holiday spirit and make your eyes pop.

Heavenly highlight
Holidays or not, you can’t go wrong with an ethereal glow. When creating an on-camera look, it’s okay to take it up a notch. Maybe go for an icier highlight than you normally would or apply an extra coat to really emphasize the glow. If your outfit allows, dust some highlighter on your collarbone and shoulders too—the more, the merrier!
