The Beauty Behind Dominique Cosmetics

Christen Dominique graces the computer screens of over 4 million YouTube subscribers with her viral makeup tutorials and helpful how-to videos. And while juggling roles as mother, wife, brand owner, content creator, and friend to her viewers, she somehow stays down-to-earth. Maybe it’s because even from her humble beginnings as a struggling makeup artist until now as a worldwide beauty sensation, Christen keeps focused.

As a little girl, Christen Dominique loved painting, as well as digging through her mother’s beauty bag. Fast forward to 2018, Christen launched The Latte Palette, the first eye shadow collection within her very own cosmetics company. Today, Dominique Cosmetics encourages others to play with color by offering a vibrant selection of shadows and lip wear.

To celebrate Dominique Cosmetics turning 2-years old, we caught up with Christen to discuss her passion-driven brand, favorite DC products, and even her go-to coffee order!

Take us back in time to when you first started your YouTube channel. Describe what inspired you to begin making videos?

At the beginning of my career, I was employed with an insurance company and working as a part time makeup artist—in addition to being a student and mom. My plans shifted once I had to quit makeup artistry and go to school full time. My clients suggested that I try making YouTube videos so I could continue my passion for beauty. A company later contacted me about making videos full time, and I was able to take a chance on my dream.

What has inspired you throughout this journey?

My love for helping people look and feel beautiful has always been my inspiration. I’ve always wanted to make my passion a tangible reality for others to experience and enjoy. I was once a struggling makeup artist that had to overcome obstacles to achieve my goals and that’s added inspiration that I incorporate in everything I do.

What made you want to start your own cosmetics line?

I’ve always wanted to create a brand that encompasses my passion for making others look and feel beautiful from the inside and out. I dreamed of creating a cosmetic line that is multi-purpose for the artist and the everyday girl with exciting packaging.

What inspired you to create your very first product, The Latte Palette?

Mornings with mom and grandma, drinking lattes and having memorable conversations. Also, my grandmother’s vibrancy was what inspired the palette’s pops of color.

What’s your go-to coffee order?

Almond milk mocha lattes are my go-to!

What’s your favorite shade combination from The Latte Palette?

I suggest combining the warm-toned shades, Caramel, Hazelnut, and Creme Brûlée on your lid. Use Mocha as liner to complete this natural look.

What inspired the Berries & Cream Palette?

The Berries & Cream Palette is inspired by the fall & winter holiday season. The ruby-toned shade options are perfect for creating sweet and sultry looks.

The vibrant shades from the Celestial Storm Palette encourage everyone to infuse more color into their eye looks. Any tips on how to incorporate bright colors into a daily beauty routine?

I suggest adding brighter shades to the inner corners of your eyes for a subtle pop of color to liven up your daily beauty routine.

You’ve expanded your line to include long wearing liquid lipsticks and gloss. What’s your go-to shade from your line?

My favorite liquid lipstick is Nude Kiss and my favorite gloss is Strawberry Lemonade.

Name one product from your line that you can’t live without?

Can’t live without the Latte Palette!

Finish the sentence: “I’ll never leave the house without applying _____.”

Concealer and brows.

What’s next for you, your channel and Dominique Cosmetics?

For myself, I’m always working on becoming the best person, leader, mother, and artist I can be, so that my influence on others is always positive. With Dominique Cosmetics, I plan on expanding our products in all aspects of beauty from the face to the lips. As far as my channel, I’ll be uploading more personal lifestyle content and also creating a second family channel with my husband.
