Tips for Preserving Your Blowout at the Gym

1

In the battle of exercise vs. blowout, sweat-inducing exercise almost always annihilates your blowout, making stylers choose between building their bod and defending their ‘do. If you’re part of the 99.99% of people who have made fitness a New Year’s Resolution for 2020, I have some hair-saving advice for you.

It’s super easy to get healthy and keep your hair sanity – all you need are some satin scrunchies and a couple spritzes of dry shampoo. Follow my pre- and post-workout hair routines to keep your blowout strong during light to medium workouts.

Pre-workout Routine:

  1. Apply a lightweight dry shampoo onto your scalp to proactively absorb sweat and oils as you workout. Go for a refreshing formula that subtly encourages grip and texture while balancing your scalp’s sebum levels. Recommended: R+Co Skyline Dry Shampoo Powder
  2. After applying dry shampoo, add a lightweight hair oil to the ends of your hair to tame, prevent breakage, and de-frizz strands while you sweat. Recommended: Bumble an bumble. Hairdresser’s Invisible Oil
  3. Secure your hair in a protective bun to keep strands away from sweat and preserve your style without smashing it. To do this, use a silk scrunchie to gather your hair into a high ponytail. Wrap your ponytail around the base of your hairband and tightly secure with bobby pins. Add a silk headband to keep short pieces out of your face. Recommended: Slip The Good Hair Day Set & T3 Clip Kit

Post-workout Routine:

  1. Blow-dry your roots to eliminate dampness and pass over any frizzy strands with your flat iron. Add a spritz of dry shampoo to soak up any leftover oiliness and to add volume.
  2. If your blowout is on its third or fourth day, add an odor neutralizing spray to refresh and extend your style for an extra day! Recommended: Oribe Côte d’Azur Hair Refresher
  3. If all else fails, embrace the wave by curling frizzy parts of your hair with a hair wand. Then add a texturizing, soft-hold hairspray for hold with voluminous movement. Pick a spray that can be easily brushed out without leaving behind a flaky residue. Recommended: Rene Furterer Style Vegetal Finishing Hair Spray
