Traveling for the Holidays? Prep Your Skin en Route

It’s no exaggeration that low cabin pressure and a lack of fresh oxygen on airplanes dehydrate the skin. Whether you realize it or not, the humidity in the cabin air is drastically lower than when on the ground (yikes!). If you’re traveling for the holidays, the last thing you want is dry, dull, broken out skin before a party with those friends and family you see just once a year.

Don’t let the flight home slacken your skin. Instead, give your face some extra TLC mid-flight to ensure healthy, happy skin at landing. From check-in to landing, our simple 5-step routine will have you covered. Sure, you might get some strange looks, but it’s well worth it for freshly hydrated, glowing skin.

For starters, either board with a clean slate aka no makeup or cleanse immediately after take-off.

We recommend RMS Beauty The Ultimate Makeup Remover Wipes.

Then, help your skin retain moisture with a sheet mask—preferably one rich in vitamins and minerals with both hydrating and brightening benefits.

We recommend Boscia Sake Brightening Bio Cellulose Mask.

Post mask, make sure to lock in all of the moisture and nutrients with a lightweight, fast-absorbing facial oil. Not only will this hydrate and nourish your skin but also provide a strong protective barrier.

We recommend Good Molecules Ultra Hydrating Facial Oil or Farmacy Honey Grail Ultra Hydrating Facial Oil.

Depending on the length of the flight, your skin may start feeling dehydrated again. Try spritzing a face mist for a hydrating touch up that will help regulate water retention and keep skin balanced and refreshed throughout the flight.

We recommend Omorovicza Magic Moisture Mist or Eve Lom Radiance Face Mist.

Even if you’re taking a red eye or a 6AM flight, the last thing you want to do is look tired when the wheels hit the ground. Fake a full eight hours with a potent eye treatment that will hydrate, de-puff, and revive under eyes.

We recommend Boscia Super Cool De-Puffing Eye Balm or Peter Thomas Roth Cucumber Hydra Gel Eye Patches.

Don’t forget about the lips! Keep them hydrated with a nourishing lip balm to instantly soothe, soften and calm the skin while preventing moisture loss. Try applying a thick layer to serve as a mask for the duration of the flight.

We recommend Eau Thermale Avene Cold Cream Lip Butter or BKR Paris Water Balm BTS.

At any point, if you’re ready for some shut eye, use a silk eye mask—it’ll help retain your skin’s moisture while blocking out any light.

We recommend the Slip Sleep Mask.
