New from NARS: Limited-Edition Cheek and Eye Palettes
Published Feb 11, 2014
A NARSissist is “someone who lives by their own rules, isn’t afraid to express themselves in every look, mood, or attitude, and has a bottomless makeup bag”—at least according to NARS. And we agree that @NARSissist has become more than just a clever Twitter handle for the brand. The term is now synonymous with everything founder Francois Nars stands for: playing with color and taking makeup risks, while embracing your tried-and-true, signature shades. The new limited-edition NARSissist palettes fit that philosophy. If you’ve been wanting to stock up on high-quality essentials for cheeks and eyes, don’t miss these.
NARSissist Cheek Palette | $49 (0.08 oz. x 3)
Whether you’re a die-hard NARSissist yourself or a NARS newbie, this set is a great option for cheeks. The three powders inside are virtually all you need to create a radiant, natural glow: “Devotee” is a limited-edition pale-pink/white highlighting sheen; the cult-favorite sheer peachy-pink blush “Orgasm,” which works well on all skin tones; and “Laguna”, a brown-based bronzer with a hint of golden shimmer that can also be used to contour.
With the compact, you also get a newly designed, high-quality mini blush brush. It’s not so small that it’s hard to use, and the bristles are super soft. If you already own Orgasm (0.16 oz.) and/or Laguna (0.28 oz) as singles, it probably makes more sense to stick to those. Unless you travel a lot or bring your cheek color with you daily—in both cases, this portable palette is ideal.
NARSissist Eye Palette | $79 (0.003 oz. x 15)
The first thing to love about this palette is the fact that it has 15 powder shadows, all of which can work day or night. It’s on the large side (bigger than your palm), but still slim enough to take on-the-go, thanks to the extra-large (for-a-palette, anyway) mirror inside. The shade range includes nudes, browns, greys, and blacks—all of which are super pigmented and easily buildable. The color payoff is high enough that they work well when used as eyeliners. But whether lining or doing a full wash of color, you only need a tiny dab of product on your brush. There’s also very little, if any, fallout, which is hard to find in powder shadows. Even though this palette is pricey, we think it’s a worthy investment because it gives you the chance to try a bunch of NARS’ best-loved eye colors before having to commit to them in full-size (0.07 oz.).
We found that using the shades in groups of five (across each horizontal row) made for beautiful, coordinated smokey eye looks. But really, there are no limitations. You can mix and match anything you like, which is part of the fun here! If you’re an eye makeup person, this palette takes the hassle of choosing shadows to pack for a trip, too.
