This summer, bareMinerals debuted two new products that were on my radar: Lash Domination, a volumizing mascara with an innovative brush design, and Locked & Coated, a waterproof topcoat for mascara. Because I adore the brand, I had to give these a try.
Like so many mascaras coming out these days, Lash Domination’s brush plays into the results you get from the product. The bristles spiral around the brush tip, sort of like a soft-serve ice cream cone. As you apply, the brush does seem to help grab hairs and spread the mascara evenly, plumping lashes from root to tip. And because the wand tapers at the end, it can get in to coat your tiniest lashes. This did, however, leave me with a few small clumps in the corners of my eyes. There's a purportedly ergonomic handle on the brush, which looks sort of cool, but I'm not sure made much of a difference in the application. The paraben- and phthalate-free formula also contains an interesting nourishing ingredient—quinoa protein!
Locked & Coated makes a good companion for Lash Domination in that it's designed to make (any) mascara last. It's one of the few, if any, items on the market comparable to our go-to, Anastasia Lash Genius Waterproof Topcoat. You need only one coat, applied on top of your mascara, to protect moisture, sweat, and the elements. The product itself is invisible and glides on smoothly—it actually evened out my lashes! If you already love another non-waterproof mascara, or if you're the type who also ends up with smudges by the end of the day, Locked & Coated may be for you. With it, my mascara survived a day at the lake and even an impromptu rain shower.
