Announcing The 2013 NYX FACE Awards Winner, Our Community Member Missy Lynn!

Last weekend NYX Cosmetics hosted the second annual FACE awards, an event that recognizes up-and-coming YouTube beauty vloggers. When Beautylish community member Missy Lynn (aka start2finishmua) was announced as Vlogger of the Year, we were so excited but not entirely surprised. Her talent and story has always stood out to us, too. Aside from working as a freelance makeup artist, Lynn is an active duty member of the United States Air Force. When we profiled her last year, she told us about staying true to herself despite her line of work and the expectations of others. “Not many people think that girlie-girls can immerse themselves in such a strong, male-oriented occupation and still keep their feminine side. When I’m all dolled up and tell people I’m in the military, they’re always amazed. I love that reaction,” she said.

In earning the top title (plus $25,000 and a year's supply of NYX Cosmetics), Lynn reminds us what wearing makeup is all about—expressing yourself and feeling good about who you are. The 23-year-old is a true inspiration to her 125,000 subscribers and everyone around her, including us. After the event we were able to congratulate the winner, catch up, and find out what's she's working on now.

What are you up to now? Any new projects you're working on?

I'm still taking in the win of the NYX FACE Awards; it's been a few days and still feels like a dream. Work-wise, I've been keeping busy helping out with a beauty project called Beauty on the Sea Expo. The event is similar to IMATS (International Make-Up Artist Trade Show), but will be more intimate. We're sailing to Bermuda for five days! And, we're giving proceeds to the Base Camp Children's Cancer Foundation. Aside from that, school is back in session, meaning most of my nights will be devoted to going to class. But I still plan to be heavily involved with my beauty-community family!

What's your favorite tutorial you've done and why?

I have two favorites: How to Fill in Eyebrows and How to Highlight and Contour. These are two techniques people struggle with the most. It's nice to see how both videos have had an impact on my viewers and their beauty routines!
