Cult Product: NARS Orgasm

1074

Simply saying word “orgasm” may make some people blush. But with his eponymous line, French born makeup artist Francois Nars has managed to turn the word into a term that's been on every beauty lover's lips for years. With Orgasm, NARS got the color just right—the fact that the classic peach-pink (with just the right amount of golden shimmer) can work year-round on all skin tones is what sets it apart. NARS now offers a full “Orgasm” collection—people love it so much, that, according to the company, two Orgasm products are sold every minute!

Here are a few of my favorite items from the line, which the brand markets with the tagline "Get the afterglow."

Blush

NARS Blush

The product that started it all! This blush, the holy grail of all cheek colors, was the first Orgasm product released to the masses, and has become a must-have in makeup artists’ kits. NARS blushes are known for having a range of natural, translucent quality that highlight the complexion with a natural-looking flush. According to NARS' website, Mr. Nars had the name Orgasm first, and then developed the color—a universally flattering soft, sheer, peachy pink with a hint of shimmer.

The Multiple

NARS The Multiple

The idea for the brand's "The Multiple" (an icon in its own right) was born at a 1996 Harper's Bazaar shoot, when Francois Nars used one lipstick on model Carolyn Murphy's eyes, lips, and cheeks. Mr. Nars saw customers copying this easy monochromatic look, and soon decided to launch an all-in-one product that would work for any situation—a cream color that would work all over the face in any situation. The Orgasm Multiple is a cream-to-powder, multi-purpose stick that helps you achieve beautiful highlights with bold pops of color. It's great for adding warmth anywhere, to the eyes, cheeks, lips, and body.

Lip Gloss

NARS Lip Gloss

By popular demand, lip gloss was an inevitable addition. It’s a sheer formula with serious shine, in the same warm pink hue with a bit of golden shimmer. I find the gloss really versatile—it works well on all skin and lip tones.
