Beauty Savers: Customizable Palettes
Published Nov 15, 2011
Between working at a cosmetic counter and college, my makeup bag is an essential. I never know when I will have to look my best, and my beauty bag used to grow daily. I’ve had to upgrade it quite a few times in order to fit everything. It would overflow with at least five eye shadows, two powders, bronzer, and the two blushes I carried. I didn’t even realize that I already had everything for the day.
Often, because I was pressed for time or not thinking clearly, I just shoved things I didn’t even need into my bag. Before running out of the house in the morning I barely had time to moisturize and apply lip balm. I saved the heavy stuff for my long ride into the city, which is the main reason I was so over prepared. I liked having a little bit of everything (in case I changed my mind), but even I knew my bag was out of control.
I didn’t think it was a waste to carry all these items with me, but it was messy, disorganized, and heavy. I’d end up with broken powders and lost eye shadows. I’d run out to buy a color I thought I needed only to find it buried at the bottom of my bag. I know I’m not the only one who’s done this. Now that I’m using a customizable on-the-go palette, I’m saving so much money.
I’ve seen professional makeup artists use custom palettes from M.A.C. or Make Up For Ever at shows and weddings, but I never really thought of the benefits for everyday use. I saw palettes as a way to hold one type of product (a palette for face powders, or one just for lip colors) as opposed to many. I never thought of combining products to make a palette with everything I need for my purse.
Consider making your own custom palette to save time, money, and energy. You’ll have fun creating your own palette unique to your tastes, and if you don’t know where to start, here are some suggestions:
1 Unii Palette
This little wonder magnetically stores all of your favorite makeup pans. You can carry powder, blush, shadow, lip pans, and more. If your makeup products come in a case, you can de-pot them or buy them in a pan to save a little money. The palette also has a mirror for your convenience and a lock so nothing falls out. The hard case is perfect if you’re a little too rough with your bag.
2 Inglot Freedom System Combination Palette
This palette allows you to combine two eye shadows, one blush, and one face powder into one sleek design. Though it limits the number of things you can put in, it’s perfect if you’re the type of person who carries entirely too much. The colors are all magnetic so you can change them out every day if you wish. Be warned: Only Inglot products fit into the palette, but since the shadows are only $5, we’ll let it slide.
3 Z Palette
The Z Palette comes in different sizes, so you’ll be able to choose how much you’d like to carry. The palette also comes in fun outer designs like zebra print and has a clear top (helpful if you’re carrying more than one palette and need to see what’s inside). Z Palettes are so light and slim , you can get away with toting a few of them. If you’d prefer to decorate the clear top with stickers or designs, then go for it. The palette is yours to customize.
