Beauty Detox: Bone-Building Hummus
Published Jan 9, 2012
Making small changes to your diet after the holidays is the easiest way to stick to those healthy eating New Year's resolutions. Substituting high fat dips with celebrity nutritionist Kimberly Snyder's chickpea-free hummus is a great way to do it. "Unsprouted chickpeas are starchy, and can make you gassy and bloated,” says Kim. "Because this recipe uses zucchini instead of a chickpeas, it’s lighter and easier to digest." Zucchini is also rich in healthy nutrients and vitamins such as C (which is essential for building bone and skin, and maintaining healthy teeth), and B9, which helps the body produce and maintain new cells.
In this recipe, you’ll also get the beauty benefits of tahini, which is made of ground sesame seeds. "Sesame seeds are one of the highest plant-based sources of calcium, which promotes bone structure and movement," says Kim. Try Kim’s hummus as a snack with carrot or celery sticks, or as a yummy spread on sandwiches.
