Beautylish's Favorite Winter Nail Shades
Published Jan 15, 2012
At the Beautylish offices, “What color are you wearing on your nails?” is a question you’ll hear frequently. We love to try new brands and designs, and are constantly inspired by Beautylish Beauties. This month, we turn the camera on ourselves to show you our favorite winter polishes.

“Give me something sparkly and I will probably stare at it for hours. That's why I am currently loving CND Effects in Sapphire Sparkle layered on top of a fine black-blue glitter—Sinful Colors in What's Your Name. I feel like a complete weirdo staring at my hands as I move my fingers back and forth watching the sparkles change from blue to purple—but it looks so magical I don't care!”

"I’m usually not a fan of reds unless it’s a bright firetruck hue, but Essie's new Size Matters is a pretty, dark ruby shade that complements my pale winter skin tone. It was the perfect color for Christmas Day!"

“When I first laid eyes on Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics in Wasabi Lacquer at IMATS, I stopped in my tracks and knew that I had to buy a bottle of this chartreuse hue. Whenever I'm feeling down and want to punch up my overall look, I go for this shade. It doesn't hurt that I absolutely love sushi too!”

“When the weather cools down, I like to paint my nails with Essie in Chinchilly. This soft dove gray has a neutral undertone and is on the paler side, so it doesn't look as somber and aggressive as deeper gunmetal or navy shades. I also like that it looks feminine—even though it’s gray—so I can wear it with party dresses as well as structured blazers."

“I’m normally a classic girl who wears vampy red polishes in winter and bright pinks, corals, and blues during the summer. This season, however, I’ve been lusting after this vibrant pink from CND called Smoochie. I love that it looks like the deepest fuchsia shade in a sunset and adds a pop to any dark outfit.”

"Galaxy-style nails are one of my favorite nail designs ever! In my first attempt (pictured) I used two coats of OPI Nail Polish in Black Onyx, then sponged on multiple colors to form a dazzling star field. I layered China Glaze Nail Lacquer in Shooting Star—an apt name—on top for a stellar finish. The micro- and macro-size polish particles give an out-of-this-world dimension to my nails.”

“I love Inglot’s nail enamel in 203—a clear polish with huge green bits of glitter—layered over 967, a mossy green shade. The combination is perfect for the holidays. It reminds me of lights twinkling and sparkling on a Christmas tree.”
