Said it in the title really, any inexpensive ways to make my skin lighter?

If it is just for a little dark spot on your skin try using a lemon on that spot. I heard it might help. But if you want it for all your skin there is nothing you can do that is inexpensive and also there is nothing that won't hurt you. Everything that is made for making skin lighter is terrible for the skin. I'm sure your skin is wonderful and gorgeous :)
I would prefer to have darker skin.

I'd advise against applying lemon to your face as it is highly acidic and not in keeping with skin's natural pH levels. Lactic acid, however, is found in milk and Greek yogurt and can help keep skin fair, but that is with diligence and time. Perhaps you seek to brighten your complexion in which case I'd suggest a Vitamin C Serum with ascorbic acid as the active ingredient. Creams with AHA and BHA will help exfoliate and lead to a more even skin tone. A light peel will also help bring a glow and even tone. Most spas and salons have a licensed Esthetician on staff, but there are also home peels that are safe and effective. Dr. Dennis Gross makes excellent peel pads and can be found at Sephora. I'd be sure to counter with a hydrating moisturizer if you go that route. I'd do a test patch for any new product and not use a peel at the same time as AHAs or BHA's and serums as your skin needs time to calm itself. The Aveeno Positively Radiant line is gentle and effective. A great addition to any skin care regimen.
