I've recently gotten a very short cut and my stylist recommended putting a red toned color in it, but the ones I have used seem to fade out quickly. I don't want to bleach it due to past damage. Last time I used Manic Panic's Vampire Red and just did it over my brunette hair so it was nice & subtle but didn't last long. Recommendations please. (:

I dyed the ends of my hair with cherry kool-aid. Sounds really weird but it's the same color it's been since I did it in January. 😊

I wouldn't use kool aid if you want to go another color, it stains your hair shaft and is not removable without cutting it off.
I find manic panics red fade fastest. Have you tried special effects? When I had red hair I always used it, it didn't fade as easily as other reds.
You have to keep in mind though that because your hair isn't bleached, there's less room for veggie dye to hold onto so it will fade quicker. You could always put a bit of red veggie dye in your bottle of conditioner, it'll keep your red refreshed.

Yeah, that's the only draw back with kool aid. But if you are set on being red for a long time, it can act as a base

If you really want to commit to the red, henna is super permanent in hair! Just know that you won't be able to remove it with a dye remover if you want to change the color and unless the henna dye is pure henna it could contain some metallic pigments, which means bleach would not be an option to remove it either.

I agree with Mia! Lush does an amazing henna block, the red one is called Rouge. Henna is really good for your hair too.

Thank you everyone. (: I'm going to look into these! I've never used a henna block before.

They take FOREVER to use but they're so worth it! My cousin used it on her hair, it left it incredibly soft and conditioned, the colour pigmentation was insane. They have leaflets in LUSH to tell you how to use them, and how-to guides on the website too. YT videos have how-tos for the henna block if you prefer visually seeing it happen:)

I plan on looking into it for sure! My hair just isn't cooperative especially holding red hues. Will it stain my scalp at all? Since I'm inexpierenced with it and have very short hair.

Wella is a great, very inexpensive brand that you can buy at Sally's. Please don't use kool-aid because it will damage and be impossible to get out!!

Oh oh and if you are going to use henna, I hope you are committed because it doesn't come out D:
