I'm after a bit of advice about make up brushes from beauty lovers and make up experts. I am currently looking at reviews / YouTube videos of the real techniques, bdellium and sigma brushes. Does anyone have experience with these particular brands? I want to build up a nice collection of make up brushes. Are there notable differences between the three brands? I have heard that Sigma send brushes for free for review and they shed a lot. Any views, hints and tips are most welcome. I know people say how good Mac are but I simply can't afford to spend that much, but I would like to build a good quality set of brushes.
Thanks in advance,
Amy

Personally, I think the RT brushes are amazing quality for the price. No, they aren't as fancy as MAC per say, but they do a very good considering the price point. I've heard good things about Sigma-BUT only on particular brushes (kabuki, powder). Also, check out your local art store supply (Michael's or Hobby Lobby)..some of the brushes used to paint artwork (yes, those brushes) double as makeup brushes and work just as well, if not better than, the brushes intended for makeup application. I recommend Cornell Lowe.

I'm only a fan of Real Techniques out of the brands you just mentioned. I found Sigma to be a hot mess. Bought a set a few years ago and they look beat. I take very good care of my brushes and I have a full set of Bobbi Brown brushes that look newer than the Sigma set I have and they are ten years old. Yes, Sigma sheds and there are far more superior brushes out there. If you're just starting out and can only afford Sigma...go for it but over time you might want to add more higher quality brushes to your collection.

Thank you for the replies - what other brands can people recommend? Its the hype that surrounds sigma, but I think they send free brushes for review which puts me off...and I've heard they shed a lot. I have ordered a few RT brushes as they were on offer. I do want to get a good brush set but there are just sooooo many choices out there

I like the Real Technique face brushes but the eye brushes are horrible in my opinion. I've never tried sigma brushes but I hear bad reviews from friends that have. To be honest the RT brushes are the most affordable brushes I have, my other brushes are a mix of mac and chanel. But I've heard good reviews on elf and Sonia Kushak.

Along with my Bobbi Brown set I have a few from MAC,RT,Sonia Kashak, and a partial set of brushes that I haven't seen sold in the states but come out of Japan. I like the mix because some brands can make an awesome eye brush but fail miserably at a blush brush.

Thank you for all the hints and tips! I have ordered a few of the RT brushes to try, they were on offer at half price! I'm going to read up and look for reviews of Sonia Kashak and some other brands

Personally I tried RT brushes and did not find them great.. As recommended by one of the admins here try to save money and get good quality brushes like MAC because even I thought to buy sigma brushes but when I tried MAC brushes I just loved the way it picked the colors and 217 blending brush. Also you don't need all the brushes out there you can use one brush for many things. You can see gossmakeupartist on youtube on many ways to use MAC 217 brush. I hope this helped.

Unfortunately Jacqueline H one of the moderator's is not on today but I consider her the brush Queen she has sets to the extreme and will spend a huge amount for what she has bought because of her love of makeup brushes.I believe if everyone on Beautylish knew the lengths you would fall off your seats lol but I do know out of the three you mention she would say the Bdellium set because she had talked to me about that set and said they were wonderful for low cost brushes.Real techniques and sigma she can't stand lol as I'm not a fan of real technique brushes myself they tend to soak up more product in my opinion.

Thanks again, I looked at your reviews and have seen some YouTube videos about the Sigma brushes shedding / breaking. The bdellium tools kit is a bit cheaper but looks good to me. I was looking at the maestro brush set. I'd love to be able to go and buy Mac etc.but I can get a good full set for less than the cost of a couple of their brushes. Thanks again :)

Once I've gotten the money together I'm going to get the BDellium Maestro set and I've seen a Royal and Langnickel set that looks lovely! Its pink and not too badly priced :)
