If you had a cold sore and wore it then most of the time after that you will get a cold sore because the germ are on it. I recommend using a tissue and light swipe it onto the tissue so you get the germ of and (this would hurt it or change it) extend the lipstick as far as it will go and dip that into rubbing alcohol and let it dry, this will kill the bacteria and it will dry quickly causing no harm to your lipstick.

Cold sores are caused by a virus living in your body and have nothing to do with the makeup you wear. Clean makeup would only matter if you have never had a cold sore before and are sharing your makeup with someone else (you could contract the virus if you don't have it)
Once you have the virus it stays in your body, outbreaks of cold sores happen when you have a dip in your immune system, caused by high stress or being sick.
I suggest getting abriva to stop cold sores before they start. (I use it, it's like magic <3)
P.S. Bacteria on your makeup can not cause a cold sore because cold sores are caused by the herpes virus.
