Just wondering how the girls on this site, in their amazing opinions, feel about eyelash extensions and what your experiences have been~~~

The semi-permanent ones that cost big bucks at the salon to get? Not a fan of the latter since they will eventually fall out and depending on how fast your lashes fall out it could be as less as a week up to a couple of months. Mascara and fake eyelashes for me please. WAY cheaper.

If I had the money I would definitely get them. I know a few people that have them and they look beautiful

I'm iffy about it. I've seen people pay a lot of money for them and they did not come out right. I also heard they're damaging to your natural lashes. I'd stick to false lashes where I can remove them at the end of the night :)

Here's what I could find on one particular product. This comes from a pro site that sells this to cosmetologists.

From what I gather the lashes are simply like individual lashes you can use eyelash adhesive but the glue itself is more like "super glue" for the eyes. I'm trying to find info on the glue itself.

The official site does not offer a list of ingredients in the glue and the picture of the bottle only says "medical grade".

You girls are so wonderful!! Thanks for the insight! I have seen both sides of the coin, thats why I ask... My thing is, they are so gorgeous if done correctly by a CERTIFIED lash specialist, but if done without the proper credentials, then I think it can be scary and horrible.... So, Im glad to hear what you guys think! Thanks again and keep em comin!!!!

I try eyelash extension couple times for vacation. It's def pretty but not for everyday wear. First cost is too high, high maintenance( they told me it will last up to 3 to 4weeks, no you need to fill in after 2weeks), could be very uncomfortable(first few day I had hard time washing my face, cause I didn't want to lose any extension), need to go professional place( there is a lot of place with cheaper lash extension, there is chance they use cheap glue! If they use cheap glue then your eye will be burn! Not ritually but very hurt, too harsh on eyes!). But over all, it's worthy it when you go to warm place for vacation! No need make-up and dolly eyes whole time ^0^

The only ones I could afford to try where under $100 and I hated them. Made my eyes itch, glue left little clumps, and when they fell out they took half my REAL lashes with them! I'll stick to falsies because I only want them for special occasions, no damage, and I can change the look any time I want :)

Personally, I don't want anyone messing around near my eyes. LOL. I am blessed in the eyelash dept but use MAC falsie if I need a little more umph!  xoxo

Personally I don't get it. Why spend the money on something I can't get multiple uses out of?

I like eyelash extensions if they are done properly and professionally. There is nothing like a set of lases to totally bring out your eyes. With proper testing etc, longer looks can be achieved with mascara. I am Ardell certified and I think lash extensions are great!

i started off wearing just the strip and then when i moved to a bigger city i decided to do the extention. the glue she used was so harsh that it burned my nose when i breathed. then it dried very hard, it ended up scraping my cornea when they became loose. safe to say i pulled them out and pulled out my lashes and had to wait for them to grow back befor i could wear the strip again.

This was in my timeline this morning:
It talks about lash extensions and long wearing mascara (6 days??!!)

I've tried lash extensions multiple times and whenever I get them, they're so pretty and make such a difference to my overall appearance that I get hooked for a few months, going in for touch-ups every 2-3 weeks. But it's really pricey and does damage your natural lashes (as the extensions grow out, they weigh down on your natural lashes and the longer you wait for a touch up or to remove them, the more they can twist and pull out). I'd definitely recommend lash extensions if you're getting married or have a big vacation planned where you want to look glam 24/7, but it is expensive and unrealistic to have all the time, especially if you're good at putting in false lashes yourself. If you do decide to try lash extensions, try to get the thinnest, least scratchy ones possible and ask if they have glue for sensitive eyes. I've had sensitivity to some of the superstrong glues that made my eyelids puff up!

Hi there,

I am a licensed esthetician and have been doing eyelash extensions for about 4 years. They are absolutely wonderful if they are done properly, also you do really get what you pay for.

The lashes that I use are synthetic fibers, they have a wide variety of lenghts, thickness, curls and colors to choose from. Every persons eyes have different needs and every persons lashes can handle more weight that others. Say for instance you have very small thin brittle lashes, you probably wouldn't want to put super thick 15mm lashes on, because the eyelash can't support the weight of the new lash and would shed premature. So if you do have this done, go to a certified professional.

This is how i perform my procedure
First off, I'd like to state that everything is completely sterile, from the synthetic lashes down to my tweezers, I mean EVERYTHING.
I start by a full assessment of the eye area, how thick the lashes are and talk to the client on the "look" they are trying to achieve. they lay down and I clean their eyes and lashes. I use a primer on the lashes to help the adhesive bond properly and give your lashes the longest adhesion possible. Then I use an anti-aging gel patch or paper tape (if your are sensitive or have allergies) to hold down the bottom lashes, this prevents the top lashes from sticking to the bottom ones. Than I start to apply the lashes, one by one. I isolate one single eyelash with needle nose tweezers to prevent the surrounding lashes from sticking into the adhesive. Once that lash is isolated I pick up a lash with my other hand also with needle nose tweezers, dip it in the glue and shimmy it onto the isolated lash. I blow a little air onto the area, than go to the other eye and do the same procedure. This process can take up to 3 hours depending on the persons eye and how many lashes can be applied.

A person can lose 3-5 lashes a day naturally, you should have your lashes refilled about every 2 weeks, some clients can go 3. The refill only takes about 45 mins to an hour. If this process is done properly you should actually enhance the growth of your natural lashes because you are not touching them anymore or using mascara. As far as the adhesive goes, it is fume free and never touches your skin. I forgot to mention the lashes are applied 1 mm away from your skin on your eyelash, this prevents pulling and irritation when the lashes are growing. Check out the brand I use which is the number 1 in eyelash extensions. Any provider that uses this product you can be ensured they have training. You cant even order the product without proper hands on training with and instructor. I did 16 hours of hands on training and theory before i even used any of the products on my clients. Most other companies send you a dvd with your kit. WOW SCARY!

I have very straight medium length eyelashes. I have tried everything I could to keep my eyelashes curled and nothing worked until I got eyelash extensions. I was nervous about getting them done because I thought my natural lashes would show through. The lady that did mine was amazing. It was so relaxing and I actually fell asleep. I know that some ppl will use a heated lash curler to curl the lash before and then they will apply the lash extension but my lady didn't. She has been doing lash extensions for over 3 years and the way that she placed them actually made my natural lashes curl up. I like that my eyes look so much bigger. I got mine done last Saturday and I would say about a total of 10 lashes have fallen out. I am a little worried that they will all fall out by next week but over the past couple of days I have only had 1 or 2 fall out.

The only thing I don't like about the lashes is that I can't really do my eyeshadow, what I mean by that is when I apply my eyeshadow and I have to take it off at night I can't use a eye makeup remover. I know that most ppl recommed to use an oil free remover but it irritates my eyes. The only I can remove my eyeshadow is by using a baby wipe but even with doing that I have ripped off 2 lashes. Your also not suppose to get them wet bc it could make the lashes fall out. Recently I have been getting shampoo, conditioner, and water in my eye while trying to rinse product out of my hair and trying to avoid getting my face wet. When I get tired they make my eyes itch and I wear contacts during the day and wear my glasses at night. There are times when my eyes itch so bad and I have like a little panic attack bc I can't itch my eyes. It is like a crazy form of tourture.

I'm still deciding on whether or not to keep up with my lashes. On the one hand they look nice but they are expensive and kind of a pain in the ass to keep up.

I currently am wearing them because a friend of mine needed someone to practice on... Granted, they were free, but I don't think I'll take her up on the free refill she offered since getting mine done last Monday.

She used synthetics on me, and although sturdier, they're as hard as small fish bones, and I have had one fall out already and poke me in the eye... Not so fun.

I would recommend for weddings, proms or special occasions, but not daily. It's a pain washing your face and wearing any sort of makeup that needs to be removed at night and it's better if you sleep on your back. I sleep on my side, so shedding is more dominant on one side. Luckily, I've not experienced too much natural lash loss, but I'm going to have to wear falsies for sure to balance the synthetic hair loss that is more dominant on one side towards the end of my experience. I think she did a good job adhering it so when they shed, they don't take my natural lashes with it.

I've had mine half a week, and I agree with Annalese H. word-for-word about the itchiness though... I'm usually pretty good about not scratching if I'm wearing makeup, but it is super hard to resist with these on!

I find the scariest part was having them tape your eyes shut though. Just that part turns me off of doing it again, but the effect is too pretty for me to completely abandon the idea for a wedding or special occasion.

I did lash extensions that last 2-4 weeks and it was a big disappointment, they look great the first week then they start falling out and take your real eye lashes with them, now my real eyelashes are weak, thin and I have spots with no hair, I do not recommend it, try the self adhesive ones that you wear for a couple of hours

I've heard If you use them too much your eyelashes could fall out with the fake ones :/

My sister gets them done and 2-3 times it's caused her to have infections. She has quite sensitive eyes and she's stupid enough to keep having them done. I've also heard of them ruining your natural lashes. I personally think it's not worth it.

Id totally try them if i had the money lol! :D

I had mine done and they turned out AMAZING! I've never gotten so many great compliments on my eyes. It was wonderful being able to wake up looking beautiful! The only downside is the upkeep. You need to get infills every 6-8 weeks which can get pricey!

I saw this recently I've always had such curly lashes that they look super short. I wish I had the time/ money for a lash spa but have taught myself how to use falsies instead.
