The winter air and my skin do not get along well.. Every winter, my face gets dry to the point where it hurts. It burns when I put lotion on my cheeks! Is there a good face lotion that anyone can recommend?

First, apply at least 4 times a day. Second, I absolutely love Korres face products, so if you have a bit of money to spend on it, try those. If not, try Aveeno or Burt's Bees. Both are extremely good for sensitive skin, and both have very thick formulas, depending on which cream you pick.

Argan Oil would be a great choice- Josie Maran's is amazing, you can get a small bottle from Sephora for about $15.

Just so we're all clear, oil seals in moisture but doesn't provide it. So, that being said, use a good moisturizer, let it sink in, and then apply oil to seal it.

Description from the Sephora website- sounds like it can be used as a moisturizer.
This 100% Pure Argan Oil is a legendary oil that's rich in vitamin E and essential fatty acids, and grown organically in Morocco. With its multitasking benefits, Argan Oil can be used for many areas including hydrating and nourishing skin, as a daily moisturizer, skin treatment, treating spilt ends, and softening cuticles. It's gentle enough to use on all skin types and is believed to help with skin conditions including acne. Argan Oil easily absorbs into skin to give you a youthful, dewy glow, and has astonishing healing, conditioning, and antiaging properties to keep your skin and hair nourished and revitalized and to keep you looking beautiful from head to toe.

With 100% seriousness, oil does not hydrate. The Josie Maran oil may be different, if it has other ingredients in it. The point is, skin derives its moisture from water, but if you don't seal that in, it will dry out even more quickly. Oil, Vaseline...sealers. They'll hold the moisturizer and won't let it escape from your skin. That's all. They do the same thing for hair.

While I don't agree w sephoras claim that argan will help w acne. some of the other info on there is right on. I do agree w you that oils should not be the end all be all for what you use.I personally believe argan and other oils including coconut are definitely benifitial for dry skin. so whether you call it hydrating or simply sealing in moisture they are all stll great options for dry irritated skin.

I have dry pealy skin all year long. I use a very rich night cream instead of a moisturizer both day and night, let it soak in for about 15 minutes then apply about two drops of vitamin e oil. this does seem to keep it under control for the most part But my skin is still very difficult to work with. another tip is to make sure you always remove your makeup and moisturizer both day and night. if you forget patches will appear in no time.
