I have seen a lot of threads on the benefits of coconut oil for skincare and thought I would give it a try. My skin is extremely oily and acne prone. I have some scarring and dark spots and hope this helps. What is the best application method? Here is a picture of the type I bought.

It looks like you got the right kind Regina. I just spoon a bit in my hand, warm it with my hands and put it all over my body. Sometimes I will put some in a shot glass and just dip my fingers in to apply.

Would you use this as a face moisturizer at night, after cleansing?

I use it as a moisturizer n on my body. it works wonder. but keep in mind it takes a few minutes for your body n face to absorb it :)

Good to know. Thank you both very much! I just don't want to make my face worse.

I started using it at night after applying my required serum. A pea size amount takes care of my face and neck without feeling like a grease ball.lol. It has definitely been embraced by my combo/oily skin. As far as acne goes...I had one lone zit crop up over the weekend due to drinking a huge pina colada (skin reacts negatively to sugar) but after two nights of applying the coconut oil while on vacay by Monday the lil sucker was gone. Quite impressed with it.

I was just about to write a post about the issue I am having with coconut oil. I bought the extra virgin and have been using the past few days as a body moisturizer and it has made my skin very dry :(. I heard such wonderful things about it and this happens :(

Thanks Shelley. Your skin is beautiful! I wish mine looked the same. Hope this is a good start.

Which brand did you pick up Heather V? Is it extra virgin organic?

Regina...trust me...it took a long time to reach my goal of clear skin and it still involves work but with patience and time you can achieve it too. :)

Nutiva is the brand I use. Love it. I even started applying over my AHA body lotion and I'm scaly/ashy free for three days.

@ Heather V. I had the same issue and I asked my mom about it. And she said that coconut oil can be drying on the skin and not to use it as a body moisturizer. We're East Indian and my mom's been using oils all her life for hair and skin. So anyways, I still use the coconut oil on my face every night as its really helped balance out my combo skin. And it's also helped with my acne scars. I also use it every night to remove my eye makeup. But on my body I now use EVOO. It's so much more moisturizing as its a heavier oil. Oh and the Coconut oil is also amazing for your hair. Just leave it in over night. Hope that helps.

Thanks Sharon! I'm just curious why it is so drying on some people's skin and is a god send for others. It seems like we aren't the norm!

Where do you guys find it? I've been looking (not really hard) in the stores I go to but I never see it. I would loveto find the stuff that ppl rave so much about! :-( lol.

I have a question for you guys if anyone knows...the coconut oil I got it doesn't say cold pressed is this the wrong oil?

Jun 26, 2013

Roz X.

Yes, Jazmin. It loses most of it's beneficial properties when refined and exposed to heat.
@Nikelle, I get mine at the local health food store.

For some, there is an adjustment period to Coconut Oil, and if that be the case, until the skin adapts you may experience dryness. You can try applying it after a shower while the skin is slightly damp to lock in moisture and alternate the application with Olive Oil, Sesame Oil, Grapeseed Oil, Avocado Oil or Vitamin E...or a favorite moisture rich lotion. I alternate mine with C Booth's vanilla, which is inexpensive and smells fantastic.

Everyone will react differently to oils as our bodies' chemistry is unique. You can still use it to condition your hair or remove even the most stubborn of waterproof eye makeup if you discover it isn't the right choice for you.

Thanks ladies for all of your suggestions and information. @Nikelle- I bought mine from the grocery store, on the aisle with the rest of the cooking oil. :)
