My daughter is biracial (black father) she has pretty good hair texture, not to course...it is relaxed. We only retouch her roots once a year....seems to break off easily. Need tips to condition and maintain.

ok I just realized that is your daughter LMAO!!! HAHAHAHA what does her hair look like naturally?

@Summer...natural,... very curly (cork screw) and frizzy, around her hairline. She likes it straight, I liked it curly...@Kimberly..Coarse hair is not bad (sorry for the typo in original post) my hair is coarse in places and its hard to deal with.

My niece is bi-racial as well....they use Hair Rules conditioning and shampoo on her hair (along with everyone else in my family since curly hair reigns supreme). The relaxer you might just be too harsh for her hair. Coarse hair needs TLC too and slamming it with relaxers will actually make it worse. With it being frizzy moisture is key so invest in some really good deep conditioners to bring her moisture level up.

I can definitely see, that I am not doing enough as far as conditioning is concerned. We wash and flat iron once a week, (use a heat guard..S factor) that's it! Her scalp is dry and flaky as well. Dermatologist says she has eczema on her scalp and give us a Rx for shampoo...we are using all the wrong products. I will take all the advice given and change our routine...most deff!!! Thanks for all the great advice :))

I suggest have her go natural.I think that's the best for her. She can keep her hair healthier that way too without all the chemicals. She can also choose to either wear her hair curly or straight. If her scalp is dry try using Coconut Oil :) works AMAZINGLY!

You can check out some youtube channels. There are so many products for her to use. I would suggest like the other ladies not to perm her hair. The chemicals are really damaging to our hair. There's shea moisture products, kinky curly, carol's daughter, etc. To keep her hair strong she would want to deep condition her hair every two weeks and not use like Nichole H stated no sulfate shampoos.

hey its about to be hot! She needs to embrace the curl!!! Trust me, i HATED my hair growing up and it seem that people cant stop touching it LOL! I usually make my own deep conditioner only because im poor and I cant afford the good stuff, unless its on sale. The salon brands of conditioner I like to use are Rusk (tahitian oil one), AG Ultra Moist, Kenra Moisturing Conditioner. Kenra also makes a GREAT deep conditioning mask. I also use protein treatments before I wash and flat iron my hair BUT I have never used chemicals other than color on my hair. If you want to make your own deep conditioner just take all natural oils such as coconut oil, avocado oil, olive oil, hempseed oil, mix it in your fav conditioner, pop it in the microwave for like 40 sec so it turns to a liquid. Let it cool so it can congeal and BOOM!! You have made your won deep conditioner.
As for the dandruff, I get dandruff really bad but I do eat alot of protein. It makes my hair grow so fast that my scap doesnt have time to compensate. To keep my hair feeling fresh, i run either lavender oil or tea tree oil thru my hair and on to my scalp.
Hope it helps!!

Hi Lana! I'm a Johny-come-lately to this topic;) Anyway, I agree with a previous poster that relaxing once a year probably isn't enough. Try a gentler relaxer about 4 times a year (every three months) should help. Also when she washes and conditions, she should probably be using a wide too comb to detangle. Along with better conditioning products consider having her sleep on a satin pillow case or a satin sleep cap to keep her hair from breaking. Hope this helps! Take care:)

Thank you for the reply.....I thought that going longer between would be best....Its good to know we are ok to have her touched up more frequently than I thought.😊

i know im late, but i went through the same thing as a child, and my mom kept my hair in braid! i got a relaxer when i was 13 and wish that day never occured! I cut all off my hair 5 months ago and decided to embrace my natural thick curls. I would suggest using curl styling products and 'kill" the relaxers! i just add water and lve in conditioner plus styling products and boom, im done!! just wanted to share my piece! take care!!

Thank you for sharing....I have really felt the love on this topic :) She really enjoys the relaxed look now. I hope that when she gets a lil older she will embrace her curls, I love them! She will not even wear it curled with the flat iron....she is very stubborn... but I love her . Thank you again :))
