Chunky Highlights - how?

Alrighty. I've dyed my hair a million and a half times, but usually using just one color. I have recently acquired some Pravana in Lavender and in Violet. I plan on using the lavender as the base color and highlighting in (is it technically lowlighting?) the violet. But, as I've never done it before, I don't know how.

I'm hoping for something like these:

I'm hoping for something breezy and well-blended. What I do not want is a bunch of stripes in my hair, like this:

Section your hair into 4 or 6 sections or where ever you want them. And weave the size you want. It's basic highlights but you weave a little bigger and do some slicing. http://m.youtube.com/watch?feature=related&v=LYtSntRkhuU.
