Stuck in a hair rut for YEARS.

So, my hair has been the exact same style for years. Middle part, very very long, with a somewhat shorter length around my face. (No longer purple due to a job, I'm burgundy now ;D) but I NEED a new style! Everytime I see something I think I could pull off, it's hardly different from what I already have. I do NOT want to cut my hair short though. I love the length I have!

My only thought is to sort of, thin it out around the bottom, so I sort of have choppy layers of varying lengths. I can't think of a good way to describe it really. But the layers would be no shorter than shoulder length.

Someone halp!

Go shoulder length with bangs... it grows back and you will pull it off

A side swept or full bang would look great on you! You have a great face for them.

Try a side part, or some bangs. Don't cut it short, I had short hair and loved it, but now I'm growing it back out and it's a nightmare, and it's going to take like five years to reach its original length

Here are my thoughts...(don't take anything I say the wrong way. It's not meant as criticism, merely analysis.)

You have the misfortune of having a very cute-girl face and a gothy sense of style. Those two things are always going to be at war with each other - you have to work with it, not against it. No matter how dark you dye your hair or how much eyeliner you use, you're still going to give off "cute" vibes. Just look at the Olsen twins. They're blonde and cute, but they don't do the pretty thing.

I always advise developing your personal style - not getting something new simply for the sake of newness. Maybe that's just me. In any case, you have to ask yourself why your current look doesn't quite satisfy. Is it because you want to look edgier? More rock and roll? Or is it because you'd rather tone it down without looking like Barbie? The answer to this question has a pretty strong influence on the suggestions that would work for you.

You also have to consider what your natural hair texture is. I got the cut you're describing and I love it, but I have pretty thick, wavy and slightly coarse hair. That cut works for me because it still looks good even when I do jack with my hair. If your own hair is fine and straight as it looks in the picture without any intervention, getting layers like that will just thin it out further and probably result in frizz.

IMO, if you're aiming for a more refined to what you're doing now, I'd suggest a dark sable brown with some super-subtle highlights. Add to that a thick, blunt fringe and just a *few* choppy layers that start about 4 inches from your ends. Those will help you get some volume if you want it, but you can also make them super-straight and super defined. Basically you're adding some severity and some clean lines to your naturally soft features, and that balances it out without creating a Barbie-stopped-by-Hot-Topic conflict.

Just for good measure, I'd back off of the eyeliner. You have VERY pale skin and pretty blue eyes...your eyeliner kind of hides that and distracts from your skin. I think a nice thick back line on the upper lid and maybe a very slight smoked line on the lower lid would open up your whole face without losing any edge.

Def some side bangs and shoulder length hair.. You have beautiful skin and eyes and this will definitely make it stand out.

@Stephanie, I completely agree with what you're saying. I've been 'gothy' since I was 11, lol, it's just my style, and I love the way I dress, do my makeup, and look in general, style wise. A side part has never worked for me. My hair hates it, and I think my face is too long to pull it off really.

"just a *few* choppy layers that start about 4 inches from your ends." is EXACTLY what I'm talking about doing. My hair is pretty normal in thickness, and extremely straight. But when my ends get damaged from dying, it can make my ends look thick compared to the rest of my hair due to split ends, and I hate that! My natural hair color is actually a little darker than that, and right now I'm burgundy. I will definitely not go darker, because I know that I am sooo fair. It would totally wash me out and make me look sick! I think I'm scared of the word 'bangs' though. Even though they can be long and hardly considered bangs, all I can picture is a 4 year old me with straight across bangs and an almost-mullet. (Thanks mom xD)

Gotta say though, I love my makeup style, but I can totally see what youre saying. I think because I'm all smiley in that picture it makes my eyes look smaller than they are, but if you look at my profile picture, they're massive.

Thanks guys!

Maybe try a front bang, but they are high maintence. But personally I think your hair looks beautiful! I love the way long hair looks with large curls done with maybe a 1 1/2 inch curling iron. (:

I have to disagree with Stephanie about how cute and goth don't work together. I think they do, as in Gothic Lolita. But that is up to one's taste and something Victoria could consider. Could try full bangs imo.

I agree with coco, cute face with an edgy style looks youthful and unique in my opinion. I would also venture to say that having such an angelic face makes a goth style a bit more approachable for your average joe. If thats just who you are then don't change it just because you've got a sweetheart face! just rock it :) anyway, I do think choppy layers would look great, but I was talk to the stylist to make sure you don't thin it out too much

Um, tell your stylist to give you long and thin layers in longer length and thicker and softer layers below shouders. U could curl the ends do a left parting that would enhance your shoulder layers. U could also do a italian dye. The tricolor layery style is really in!

I think layers with bangs would look great on you...

I think you should put your hair up in a bun while it's damp - then when you let it out it will be lovely and wavey :) just because that will add a bit of volume to your fine, straight hair. also get side swept bangs!
