The Traditions Holiday Trio

I’ve been waiting for a very long time for Sonia G to finally release brushes with something other that goat hair. Don’t get me wrong. I have all her brushes and they’re great but the last thing I need are more goat hair brushes. When I learned these would be made with Canadian Squirrel I knew I had to have them. It’s my go to for eye brushes. Canadian Squirrel is so soft yet has great pickup & incredible color payoff with little effort. The wood handles & black ferrule makes for a stunning combination. Well made like all Sonia G brushes they only get better with age. I hope to see more brushes with squirrel hair in the future.

These little beauties have quickly become stand outs in my collection. They have their limitations of course, as all squirrel bristles do, but for their respective jobs I have yet to use more efficient, sumptuous brushes. The S1 works beautifully for me as an inner corner or outer v lay down and feels like air against the skin. The S2 has easily outpaced the other flat shaders I have, even another specific, larger yellow Canadian squirrel flat shader I have from another specific brand that shares many a similarity to the two flat shaders in this trio👀 And the S3. Gosh where to even begin. To keep it brief I’m obsessed with blending brushes and this one feels extra special. Effective and ethereal, it may or may not be my favorite eyeshadow brush ever, but I guess it’s soon to say for sure. In any case I think I want to be buried with it. I’m honored to have this set, so honored I had to write this long rambling review even though it has already sold out. If you have this terrific trio then count your blessings and if you missed it I am truly so sorry, because it’s worth every cent.

Can't wait to use them more... 🥰 they are really soft on my aging lids, they don't move my skin as much as my other brushes but there's a learning process vs my other Sonia G. brushes

I wanted to post a quick review of the second set I purchased from Beautylish and received today. I have washed and dried these brushes and they are very different from my first set. Please read my first review before this one, as this review will make more sense. This second set is more of what I expected from this little set of 3 eyeshadow brushes. In the image, the new set is on the bottom, and the "older" set is on the top. The S1 in this new set is flatter and has retained it's flat shape. The S2 is a beautiful, flat brush, similar to a classic Koyudo or Surratt. The S3 is the best surprise, as it is beautifully tapered and just what I was hoping for in this second set. Sonia did warn that these brushes would vary, and she is correct. I'm thrilled. If these ever do restock, I highly recommend them.

I really liked these, so when I received my first set, I purchased another. For $140 ($150 with tax), these brushes are basically $50 each. Surratt's flat eyeshadow brushes cost more, and are less dense. When washed, these brushes do bloom. The S1 at first is thin, but when washed blooms into a mini builder. The S2 when washed becomes a worker, fluffy and full. The S3 blooms a bit, but retains it's shape the most. I do wish the S3 was less dense and had more of a taper. I know that Sonia says this brush isn't a pencil brush, but it acts like a pencil brush more than a blending/crease brush. Sonia makes dense brushes. You get your money's worth here. But that isn't like a classic Fude eyeshadow brush shape from Koyudo, for example. Surratt also has flat squirrel brushes, and those retain their flatness, which makes them ideal for shade placement.

But these brushes are so special. To have a squirrel worker (S2) is fantastic. And to have a mini builder (S1) is ideal. I'm still surprised at what tasks the S3 can do. I can use the S3 on some more difficult Natasha shadows. I'm glad I got a second set before they sold out.

The two pictures attached are the washed first set on the left and the brand new unwashed brushes on the right. The second picture has (L to R) the Lotus Builder, Keyaki flat definer, S1, S2, Builder Pro, Worker Pro, and S3. I wanted to show how the S1 and S2 bloom after washing.

I’ve used this set a few times now with different eyeshadows, and I find that they pair perfectly with soft pressed or very pigmented eyeshadows. I’m using them with the new Mario palette,some Pat M, Suqqu. I can do a whole eye look using only this set, I’m so happy I got it!

I just received this trio today, and am blown away. The brushes are as soft as everyone else is saying, and the shapes are so well designed and work well together! They are now sold out and I’m so glad I ordered when I did because they are now my favorite eye brushes. Phenomenal! I can’t wait to see what Sonia G. has in store for 2023!

Barely touch the brush to the shadow, touch it to my lid & bam! Perfectly placed, just enough. Waft a little more to blend & done in seconds. Most effortless look ever.

I am a bit torn about these 3. They are gorgeous, very light, and oh so soft! But they are not very efficient, at least for me. They have very specific use and thus not very versatile for how I want them to work. I used them twice now since they arrived yesterday and I hope over time, I will like them a bit more. I used them for ND glam palette- S3 is good for blending but tends to skip at times and struggles a wee bit on diffusing a very pigmented shadow. S2 is great for laying down sheer shimmers without any fall out. If I want it more opaque, I have to make several passes. I wish this one is a tiny bit thicker/denser. S1, I can only use in inner corner. It’s just not versatile enough for outer v or crease for me and certainly not good for lining lash lines. It has the same shape as flat definer, which I love so I am disappointed that S1 isn’t as versatile as that one. Also the shape of these 3 did not change or bloom after washing, which I like. Overall, these 3 are nice to have and I would still recommend getting if you’re a collector. Unfortunately, they are not that efficient as stand alone set for an eye look, for me.
