Beauty Product Reviews
Love it.
This is my new favorite foundation. I get full coverage that looks like HD perfect skin. I have recently been doing a lot of peels on my skin, because I had texture issues with ANY foundation, so that may be the secret sauce. I also use the tatcha primer under it (would be nice if it was sold on beautylish!) and an artis brush... despite the fact that I would normally use all wayne goss brushes. I also can not imagine it looking good if you don't get your skin to a place where it only needs the half pump of foundation with this one. The pigments seem to look the best when they are all level with eachother (like with the artis brush) and if you use too much, they build up.
This formula is kind of prone to brush marks, especially if you don't have your exact perfect match. getting samples before buying is SUPER important with this one. If I didn't get samples first, I would have definitely ordered one way too yellow for me. I had to buy a neutral shade for the first time ever. I also feel like it clogs up my beautyblender, so i wouldn't apply it with that. I just use it to blend any brush marks afterwards. I have been setting with the beauty blender dual sided puff and the hourglass loose powder and ambient lighting powder.
Hopefully this helps someone.
Wish I had bought MANY.
This brush is amazing, and sold out WAY too quickly, it really needs to be restocked so I can buy more of them!
I have almost all of Wayne's brushes and this is definitely a favorite for me. I especially love it for my Hourglass Ambient Lighting powders and setting the face in a natural way, it really allows you to softly shade the skin with blushes and bronzer too, like it's airbrushed or filtered. Really versatile, but I will admit that I tried to use the Tom Ford waterproof foundation with this brush, because Wayne said you could use it to get lighter coverage, but I think that foundation is too thick and fast drying to really work with this brush, and I'd have to wash it so often I would ruin it. Luckily I did not buy this brush for THAT purpose. Just every other purpose. Please restock!
best over powder
This is kind of a troublesome product. It's a very powdery cream-powder formula, and tends to completely disappear when blended out unless I set my foundation first, even though I can get away with wearing CT Magic Foundation in shade 1 at the moment. It's not awful, but it's not great. I don't think it shows up enough, and the lighter shade in the compact does absolutely nothing on my skin at all, whether i self tan or not. It's possible that I should have chosen the brighter color choice, but given how pale I am that seems kind of ridiculous. The tone of the darker color in this compact is also SO realistic on terms of a flushed color, that I have to be careful about the placement or it looks like my foundation has worn off and my cheeks are just that color. Very odd problem to have. The brush is weird, but good quality. I'm tempted to try it with foundation because it's so dense and I can see it fitting nicely under the eyes and hugging the jawline. It definitely does work to blend the jawline for foundation, just might be a tad small of a contour shape for my giant cheek apples. (thanks grandma)
All in all, I don't really think it's worth the price. 50% off? Then it would be. I hate to say that because CT is the only brand I care about anymore, this product just isn't on the same level.
perfect summer palette
this is the only palette I really need for a summer road trip, to the beach or not. the colors are gorgeous and work perfect with a light tan, especially with blue eyes. I own 3 of the "look in a palette" variations, and originally I thought it was kind of annoying that the bronzer and highlighter are in here because I have the full size film star bronze & glow, but it's really handy not to have to bring that, actually. I also feel like these palettes are a great value for a full CT look (besides foundation, lips and lashes) and would make an amazing gift for a girl in high school or college who wants something easy to put on before class.
a bit different (and smaller) than expected
When these were delivered, I immediately ripped open the box and got into them like something feral. My very first thought about the face set was that the brushes were smaller than I thought they would be, especially the no. 13 brush. I had also thought it would have more hairs (and be denser) than it is, based on the images and Wayne's youtube video on the new face set. During my first foundation application, I found that the brush really had a lot of give, and the bristles soaked up a lot of product, which would be less of an issue if the brush was denser. Despite the whole issue with having to use more product, the results were very natural looking and the finish was nice and there was no streaking or brush marks. The no. 10 brush is identical in size and shape to my no. 2 brush from the anniversary set. This was a good thing in my opinion, because I love the no. 2 brush, but I don't want to damage the blue squirrel hairs on it by using it to blend and set the under eye. That makes the no. 10 brush really great, and it's also great just to have another brush that shape since despite having over 100 designer brushes besides my Wayne Goss brushes, I did not previously have any that were that shape and size. I think it's a fabulous brush to use with the Charlotte Tilbury Filmstar Bronze & Glow compact, either the no. 2 or the no. 10, and MUCH higher quality than Charlotte's brush meant for that (seriously, don't buy that brush, it's really bad and costs $11 more than the no. 10 on its own.) The no. 11 brush is a really nice small powder brush, I like the shape of it being a paddle instead of a round brush, although that tends to limit you to a back and forth motion instead of circular motions, because it isn't that comfortable to do it that way- and I know it is meant to be used for the buffing technique, but to do any actual buffing, you'd probably want to only use the tips of the bristles, because the more pressure you apply, the more it kind of locks you out of the circular motion. You could obviously do it anyway, but it would feel weird doing it and you would likely accelerate wear and tear on the brush. It is a very nice, very soft brush (as they all are) and a lot more portable than any of my other powder brushes due to the small size. The no. 12 brush is a densely packed, paddle shaped brush with shorter, tighter bristles than the no. 11 brush, and is great for blending edges or doing contour or bronzer, or even pressing blush into the skin. You can get a lot of payoff with it, so depending on the product you might need to be careful not to overload it with very pigmented products. Depending on what I'm trying to do, I can get all the impact I need using this brush and a product with a sheer-medium pigmentation since I have fair skin. The no. 14 brush was honestly a happy surprise for me once it arrived. I had a cheap (and horrible) tarte brush that is the same shape for about two minutes because it came in a large holiday gift set with makeup items. I was very afraid this brush would be like that brush, luckily it isn't. Despite the shape of the no. 14, it has a good number of bristles and isn't nearly as flimsy as I was fearing. It is an absolutely fabulous highlighter brush, or if you're fair using a pigmented contour powder, you could definitely use this. I personally would not use this for blush due to the size and shape, I'd use the no. 11 or 12, or the limited edition "airbrush" for that. However, you can obviously do whatever you want. As for the last brush, the no. 15 fan brush- I am not a fan of fan brushes, and almost didn't buy the full set because of the no. 14 and the no. 15 (not wanting them) but as fan brushes go, this is a very, very nice one. I was amazed looking at the brush that they aren't cut on the ends, because the shape is so absolutely perfect it looks like it would definitely have to be cut to get such a perfect shape, however the tip of each and every hair is intact (it tapers off the way hairs do) so this is just incredibly well made. This is really great for applying very pigmented highlight in a subtle way, or even applying very fine pearl or glitter pigments as highlight. I definitely would not apply any kind of glitters with the other brushes in the set, because they are much too dense and I wouldn't end up achieving the look I was going for that way. This would also be a great brush for just glazing the skin lightly with a dewy (pearl) finishing powder. So I still personally have a "thing" against the fussy, easily mangled fan brush, but this is a really, really beautiful one, and it definitely has a few great utilities.
Good product, not quite what I expected.
From everything I had seen and heard about this foundation, I expected something semi matte and with crazy staying power... and at least in my case, it isn't matte even with mattifying primer and no moisturizer on my dry skin. I also can't say it's transfer proof which was the bigger let down. I do like this product and am glad I have it, but it's just not quite there for me. I got this to be different from all my other foundations which are sheer and glowy, and I feel like this is just medium coverage and glowy. I also ordered a yellow shade that matches perfectly when I apply it, but dries lighter and pinker, which I find disappointing. I will have to get a yellow setting powder to correct that and the finish, and I was really hoping to avoid that by buying this in the first place. I gave this 4 stars because it is definitely high end quality, just didn't meet my requirements.
I love everything about it, would love the rose to be more amped up!
This is a FANTASTIC product, cheaper than any of my other brush cleansers, but works faster due to low lather and gives better results due to the conditioning properties. I bought the rose scent and was hoping it would smell like Charlotte Tilbury's cleansing balm or magic cream, and it's similar but very very faint. If they offered one with extra scent, I would jump on that in a heartbeat. I personally can't really smell it at all when my brushes are wet, but there is the tiniest whisper of rose when they're dry again. Also, this cleanser really gets everything out and makes natural hair brushes glossy. Have to make sure I didn't forget that. just really fantastic stuff.
Completely adore this
I'm going to start off by saying I don't use this every day and I don't wear makeup most days- so for my purposes this is really more of a treatment, and it works amazingly well for that, at least with my sensitive normal-dry skin. It plumps my skin up, and the way it goes over the skin I find it difficult to NOT end up massaging my face, so I don't think it really requires much remembering which is handy. The thing I love this for the most would be the small monthly breakouts I get on my chin that are dry and problematic, this really depuffs those bumps and gets rid of the flakes because they're always dry bumps (ugh, hormones)... and another great use for this really seems to be to restore your skin after an especially expressive day where your face is just sore from smiling or something, or if you have a particularly aggressive dentist who is too rough pulling your cheeks to get to back teeth. That's oddly specific but it would make a great gift for someone who is getting extensive dental work done like your mom or grandma, because they can massage it in and plump their skin and recover with this. Personally I know a lot of people who clench their teeth and have sore jaws and they love this for massaging their jaws before bed or when they wake up. Obviously that wouldn't matter if it wasn't an amazing skincare product too, you have to see results and you really do- this is worth every penny to me, it really feels amazing, absorbs wonderfully, removes even eyeliner and mascaras and cleans into the pores and you'd think a gel-balm wouldn't really do this well, but it will surprise you. The smell of this is absolutely divine, I would pay for an identical fragrance in a heartbeat as well as a body wash, body cream... anything they could come up with.
So yeah that was a pretty unusual review on my part but in my personal experience, it's all totally valid- and whether you're getting cosmetic dentistry done yourself or someone close to you is having a tooth extracted, either way it makes a great, relaxing gift that feels so healing for the face. It obviously has no pain killing properties and has nothing to do with healing the inside of your mouth, but massaging the jaw (where it hinges, below the ears) with this really has helped me feel less stressed and clench less. I know it's a skin product but I feel like this might help someone else so I just want to share that.
must have! crazy good value.
This brush is like 100% necessary if you want a truly flawless result with your makeup. As soon as I opened the box I just had to go do my makeup to test it out, and it does a few things that my other (more expensive) powder brushes simply can't do whatsoever. First, if you perfectly apply foundation and conceal any imperfections, I find that the whole thing can get ruined while setting it with powder. I'm sure I'm not the only one who conceals a blemish or a little spot on my face and the concealer (no matter which kind) gets pulled off the blemish by the powder brush (and even a puff honestly).. but this brush DOES NOT DO THAT! It is exactly like Wayne said, it really can't disturb or move your makeup around underneath, and that makes a HUGE difference! It's also amazing for applying products such as IT Cosmetics Bye Bye Pores powder to the areas of the face on either side of the nose where pores tend to be bigger on most people. Since the brush has such fine hairs, it really gets to work on those pores instead of skipping over them and making them look worse. To me, it is really night and day, and I have MANY, MANY brushes in my collection, and each one cost a lot of money- but the difference is definitely the blue squirrel hair used in this brush. I haven't had a chance to get Wayne's face set yet (sold out) but my experience with other very expensive goat hair brushes is that since they are definitely not this soft and the hair definitely isn't this fine, they DO skip over pores and they DO drag concealer off blemishes, even when used in a patting motion. This little $35 brush makes me really regret all of my $50-90 powder brushes, of which I have almost 2 dozen. *cringe*
absolutely gorgeous, super accurate brushes
I saw a lot of reviews with negative comments about the 01 brush, but decided to take a chance and order this set anyway. I'm really glad I did. Maybe I got lucky with my 01 brush, or maybe I just handle it more gently than average, but after kind of roughing up the bristles a bit to rid the brush of any loose hairs, I managed an incredible first foundation application with it, and it only shed one hair. I mostly used it in a fluid motion going downward to minimize the appearance of peach fuzz on my face, and it really blended my WORST foundation into a DREAM. The other brushes are all very small, incredibly soft and fine haired brushes. I personally feel like they are too soft to do much with powders that aren't finely milled enough, since they don't drag around on the skin at all and you'll need to blend patchy products with a stiffer brush, but if you use finely milled shadows and highlight, etc- you can get a really seamless, airbrushed look from these brushes that just isn't possible with any other brushes I already owned (and I own literally over 100 high end designer brushes at this point) so I was beyond impressed with my results. If you want to get that seamless yet glam, glowy, healthy look that you could spot in most swimsuit brand ads, these brushes are probably the easiest way to get there. When I say probably, I mean definitely. These really can turn "decent" products into fantastic products. If you are more into sharp lines and stuff like that, I think it would be a lot harder with these since the bristles aren't stiff enough in my opinion, but that isn't my thing anyway, so that could be down to my application style as well. Overall, I'm really happy with these and just ordered the "airbrush" since it came back in stock today. I will definitely be getting the new face set when that comes back in stock, and probably the rest of wayne's brushes to be honest. These brushes have really gorgeous handles and are really well balanced too, which is worth a mention. Beautiful lacquered finish.
