Meet Tesshyu Takemori
Tesshyu Takemori, the founder of CHIKUHODO, built the company from the ground up, shaping it into a leader in luxury brushes. He led as president and CEO until 1997, when his son, Shin Takemori, stepped in. Tesshyu then served as Chairman until 2023, continuing to inspire and guide the brand through decades of innovation and craftsmanship.

Traditional Maki-e Calligraphy
The handles feature brush names in calligraphy, designed by Yuta Ichikawa and applied using the traditional maki-e technique. Fun fact: Yuta also helped name the brushes and found it delightful that "Voyage" and "Tesshyu" share similar characters, symbolically connecting the two.
Wrapped with Care
Three brushes come carefully wrapped in a travel-sized microfiber towel and a cut of tenugui cloth, then packaged in a large paulownia wooden box. The box can be repurposed as a brush holder. Every element of this set, from the brushes to the packaging, has been thoughtfully crafted in Japan.
Crafted with Intention
Handles are made with mulberry wood, prized in Japan for crafting high-end furniture and Go boards—a strategy board game that happens to be Mr. Tesshyu's favorite hobby. It’s highly resistant to decay yet lightweight, and each handle is unique, showcasing the natural variation of the wood.
