Get ready for cold weather with these heavy-duty moisturizers!
Published Nov 19, 2014
My skin hates winter. Already a combination of dry and oily, my skin just gives up completely in icy weather. My cheeks, nose and chin are unable to get enough moisture under any circumstances. But this year I’m fighting back! I tried Beautylish’s five most serious, heavy-duty moisturizers over a period of a few weeks and the results are highly encouraging!
Embryolisse Lait-Crème Concentré, $28 | shop it
This product is more like a lotion than a thick cream, but don’t let that fool you. The Lait-Crème can take on any cream and hold its own. It has no discernible scent, and it absorbed into my skin right away. Not a trace of shine, either. It felt soothing on my face and provided an exceptional base for my makeup—a property that has made it a cult-favorite among makeup artists for years.
Korres Yoghurt Advanced Nourishing Sleeping Facial, $45 | shop it
Korres Yoghurt Advanced Nourishing Sleeping Facial is a heavy-duty cream mask you put on your face before going to sleep. It has 2 and a half times the amount of protein than regular Greek yogurt, and is designed to work overnight on super-dry skin. It smells nothing like yogurt; it smells wonderful—lightly herbal, very fresh. And the cream is so thick it doesn’t move in the jar when you flip it upside down. Water-based, it spreads surprisingly easily, and melts into your skin. Put a thick layer on, go to bed, and voila: soft, moisturized skin in the morning! No greasy smears, either. For extra-dry faces, this could be used as a regular moisturizer, as well. Full marks!
EVE LOM TLC Cream, $80 | shop it
EVE LOM’s TLC Cream is designed for more mature skin, or skin that feels tight and dry, and smells gorgeous, thanks to the expensive Rose Otto of Bulgaria oil in it. It smells cool, rosy, and chic—the way you would imagine the cold cream would smell on the dressing table of a 1940s movie star’s .
The TLC cream is thick, and doesn’t absorb immediately—it takes a bit of rubbing in to get your skin to drink it up. Once it does, it gets to work. I wouldn’t use this for a day cream, it gives the skin a bit of shine, but at night, the TLC cream is your friend. Smooth it on over your face, throat, and decollete. You’ll go to sleep feeling pampered and wake up with lovely-feeling skin.
Charlotte’s Magic Cream, $100 | shop it
Charlotte’s Magic Cream is making the rounds of beauty blogs and makeup obsessives, and now I know why—despite being thick it soaks in immediately, and perks up your dry, stretched-out-feeling skin in seconds without feeling greasy. I’m starting to believe it actually is magic—fine lines around my eyes look smoother, and it doesn’t make me break out at all. You only need a little bit to stay soft and smooth all day, and it works wonders as a night cream, leaving me with visibly improved skin tone and texture.
Omorovicza Gold Rescue Cream, $300 | shop it
Omorovicza’s Gold Rescue Cream is the thickest of the line and serves as a barrier cream for super dry skin. It’s actually protective against harsh winter conditions and the gold (real gold!) provides an anti-inflammatory to keep your skin nice and calm, even under conditions when it can misbehave the most. This ultra-luxurious cream leaves the skin feeling silky smooth and has a very soft floral scent. You can tackle any dryness with this miracle worker and you’ll see improvements after just a single use.
