So,I watch a lot of yt tutorials, and one of my favorite gurus is Nikkietutorials.Recently she uploaded a video about Nivea sensitive aftershave balm for men, used as a primer... She said it is really good for that purpose, since it has a lot of glicerine in it,it kind of acts as a glue for the foundation...I don't have the bucks right now for a good primer,so I was very intrigued...
So,my question to you skincare girlies out there (yes Shelley,I'm looking right at you lol) is- can aftershave harm my skin in any way? Note I would use it only for night outs, special events etc.not on a everyday basis.

Nivea is a good brand. it's made to go on freshly shaved facial skin. I think you'd be more then fine to use it.

Lol...you made me smile. I don't see the harm in using it as a primer. Its a lot better than some the other primer ideas floating around that screw around with the skins Ph level. And since you're only using it for special occasions and nights out you'll be absolutely fine. Just be sure to cleanse your face at night (face wipes don't count) to make sure you remove absolutely everything. And then once a week use a gentle clarifying mask to keeps your pores clear. Freeman has a great mask and its only $3.99 at ULTA.

Yesss she saw my tread!! xD
I tried the freeman clay one,too 'artificial' and drying for my pale sensitive skin... I use basic clay (one thats safe for eating aswell) that I mix with a little of vinegar and 2 drops of almond oil,my skin likes it a lot, also some charcoal granules (you can buy pills of charcoal) for a deep cleanse...I mastered the 'get the most out of the cheap ingredients' skincare Lol. Tho,I'm only 21,my skin can 'afford' dealing with not so effective stuff :)
Thanks girls for your input,I will try it tomorrow and let you know how did it go :)

Yay! Glad I made your day Teodora. :) Your mask sounds inviting. I might need to check that out since I already have the listed ingredients at home.

I've never heard of this but I must say I'm quite intrigued. I'd love to hear your thoughts on it if you try it. I do agree with Shelley, as long as its only used on special occasions & you thoroughly cleanse your face you'll be fine. So many of these other 'primer' ideas are absolutely horrible for your skin & its pH level, & not just the 'primers' but also products that are sold for that specific purpose.. cleansers, scrubs, etc.. just absolutely horrible for your skin!

Men use it all the time, don't wash their face and their skin have much less imperfections on average so...

I live in Brazil and I'm worried about the glycerin in the aftershave actually damaging my skin due to the intense sunlight. What do you think?

Hey guys,I tried it! I am very pleased I must say!
I put a small amount of my moisturiser, waited for 10/15 minutes for it to soak in,then the aftershave balm... I like how thin it is,hate thick face products... For the reference, over that I put on my Burjois Healthy mix foundation on my t-zone,and on the sides of my face also Burjois but a Flower perfection foundation, since its more matte and darker, for a slight contour effect (For you guys that are not familiar with the line, its a French company, held by Chanel. Its a drugstore brand but very good,Healthy mix is kinda a cult everyday foundation where I live),I then put a Max factor pressed powder on the contour area, and Essence translucent matte fixing powder on my t-zone... Bear in mind also that I do not have oily skin so I'm not that good of a ginea pig for primers and testing their longevity to the fullest :) Also,I never tried any high end primer except for Too faced porefecional,so I can't give you a comparison...

But all in all,I am so pleased with this,my makeup didnt move all day! (I ate, kissed, greeted the relatives, all that jazz)
I recomend trying it for sure, maybe you like it,maybe you won't,but since it is not so harmfull for the skin,I don't see a reason why not to (its prolly high in alcohol since nivea is that kind of brand, but oh well,it will prolly be fine unless you are extremly sensitive)
All in all I won't be buying any primers thats for sure, this totally works for me :)

@Vanessa....glycerin is a moisturizer. Its perfectly fine. Now something heavily fragranced being applied to your skin...that is worrisome. But glycerin is skin friendly.
