Unzipped. Dir. Douglas Keeve. Hachette Filipacchi FilmsMiramax Films, 1995.

“[Kevyn emerged] against the backdrop of all that ’80s glitz, all that glossy goop in fuchsia on the lips. In 1984, women were lining their eyes with blue pencil and coating their lashes with green mascara. Kevyn's gentle treatment… was positively outrageous at the time.”

In 1986, Kevyn’s work caught the eye
of legendary photographer Richard Avedon.

Together they created this image for Vogue,
Cindy Crawford’s first cover for the magazine.

“It was such a big deal for both of us. We worked together a lot after that. If I worked five days in a week, three or four of them were with Kevyn.”

Mizrahi, Isaac. "Remembering Kevyn Aucoin." New York Magazine. Date Month Year Published. Nymag.com Web. 5/20/2002.

“[Kevyn] always did the makeup for my shows. He was painstaking and treated every face as a specific project. Even though he would have three or four assistants, the models would line up to wait for him personally. Naomi Campbell would not set one foot upon the catwalk until Kevyn had had his way with her.”

–Isaac Mizrahi

In 1994, Kevyn Aucoin won the prestigious CFDA Award from the Council of Fashion Designers of America.

He is the only makeup artist to have received that honor.
