It’s always sad to say goodbye to summer, but we have to look on the bright side: the colder months are welcoming us with a whole lot of sparkle, shimmer, and shine! Beauty shelves are stocked with a ridiculous amount of nail polish these days, and the array of new colors and textures is really inspiring. Of course, we're happy to see some new takes on old favorites, too. From oxbloods and greens to metallics and neutrals, we’ve picked the top six fall nail color trends of 2013 to try throughout fall and into winter.
Oxblood
Because one of our all-time favorite polishes is Lincoln Park After Dark, OPI's vampy oxblood classic, we’re thrilled to see so many updated versions out there right now. Sophisticated, elegant, and screams fall; need we say more?
RGB Nail Polish in Oxblood | $18
Marc Jacobs in Jezebel | $18
NARS Nail Polish in Chinatown | $19
Holographic Effect
Holographic nail polishes are such a fun, futuristic trend—these color-shifting shades actually appear to change as your nails move and catch the light. We especially love those that mix a classic base color with a metallic-holograph finish, which keep it feeling chic and sophisticated.
Maybelline Color Show Holographic Nail Lacquer in Alluring Rose | $3.99
Sephora + Pantone Universe Spectral Lacquer in Antique Gold | $5
Topshop Nail Polish in Hidden Treasure | $10
Textured
When we first started seeing textured polishes, we didn’t expect them to stick around for long. But instead of going away, the trend is growing with brands adding ornate glitters, fuzzy finishes, caviar, and even "sugar" coats to their collections. If you're going for raised and vibrant, go for it! But we also like the more subtle "dots" options. Just stay patient when removing the polish, and try these tips!
Maybelline Color Show Polka Dots Nail Lacquer in Drops of Jade | $3.99
Sally Hansen Fuzzy Coat Textured Nail Color in All Yarned Up | $6.99
KBShimmer Nail Polish in Band Geek | $8.75
Naked-Neutral
The antithesis of textured and holographic shades, some may find these super subtle shades boring—but they're so chic, and go with everything! Plus, when they chip, it's way less noticeable. Count us in!
OPI Soft Shades Nail Lacquer in Sweet Memories | $9
Inglot Cosmetics 02M Breathable Nail Enamel in 602 | $14
Tom Ford Beauty Nail Lacquer in Naked | $32
Gunmetal
Gunmetal shades are perhaps the statement-making mani of the season this season. Dark silvers, golds, coppers, and bronzes aren’t as subtle as a neutral color or as bold as a holographic polish, but strike the right balance between edgy and sophisticated.
Cult Nails Nail Lacquer in In a Trance | $12
Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Nail Lacquer in Ripley | $10
MAC Nail Lacquer in Sinfully Sweet | $16
Hunter Green
Polishes in this distinctive deep-green have recently caught our attention left and right. Hunter is surprisingly versatile and even though it's dark—that hint of color coming through is all we need. Our hunch is that this shade will be the new black, at least for the season.
Zoya Nail Polish in Hunter | $8
Piggy Polish in I Dream of Green-y | $9
RGB Nail Polish in Tropic | $18
